Black Diamond Recon Gloves

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Bought these at the end of season sale discounted 50% and have not had the opportunity to put them through any extended use as of yet although the initial quality seems great. The Recons are constructed of quality materials and should provide great warmth and durability.

Great Versatile Gloves

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These gloves work perfectly for me. I've put in at least 20-30 days skiing with them, split about 50/50 resort and backcountry. They are heavy duty and feel very durable, but still give me enough dexterity to adjust my boots or operate a zipper without having to remove them. They keep my hands very warm and feel really nice on the inside while letting me shovel snow, hold my ski poles, grip an ice axe, or throw snowballs! Because they are not leather, like Black Diamond's iconic Guide Gloves and similar options, I was worried they wouldn't hold up to near-daily use, but so far they haven't shown any signs of wear and tear. I subject them to ski edges, ice, rocks, and shoveling, and they have held up perfectly with no ripping, loose threads, or failing seams. On the flip side, because they're not leather, they are lighter, more flexible, and easier to stuff into a backpack. I have two minor gripes: 1) They are just a little bit big. This is probably my fault for buying a medium instead of a small, but I hate gloves that are too tight and restrict finger movement, so I opted for the larger size. 2) The fingers don't work with touch screens. This is an issue if I want to hold my phone and take photos or videos while keeping my hands toasty. I've solved both of the above issues by wearing them with some thin, touch screen-compatible liner gloves, which help fill out the inside of the glove for a snugger fit and allow me to operate a touch screen without exposing my bare skin to the elements. Overall great glove and I'm happy I went with these.

Goldilocks!

Usually My hands are slightly on the short side but the sizing guide worked great. Not too long in the fingers not too snug either. Also not so insulated that you lose all dexterity but still nice and warm. These gloves are ? just right?

Attractive design but cold

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I purchased these with the intent of wearing during my morning cycling. I ride in Michigan during the early morning. The average temps during this time of the year in my area is between 25-10 degrees F. The one day I wore was the worst my digits have ever felt while riding. Although the description on the site lists a high (340g) level of insulation my fingers felt like I had dipped them in two buckets of ice water before I started riding. After only ten minutes in 23 degrees the pain was unbearable for my fingers. I thought I was not even wearing gloves. I have researched best winter riding gloves for more than 3 months and finally settled on these. The brand and description were considered quality and accurate. I am so disappointed. I will most likely never purchase Black Diamond gloves again. I no longer trust the brand name. I'm sure others love and trust the brand and have had excellent experience with it. I don't and didn't. I have no trouble with my hands in terms of any medical condition. The gloves just didn't keep my digits warm. Lionel.
