Distance Tent with Z-Poles

The Black Diamond Distance Tent with Z-Poles weighs less than two pounds and packs smaller than a water bottles so ultralight backpackers and minimalist thru-hikers can take it anywhere. While packable and ultralight, the high-tenacity fabric boasts improved strength that doesn't stretch when it gets wet. There are vents at the peak and foot to cross-ventilate and amplify airflow. Black Diamond reinforced the guylines with Dyneema to ensure long-lasting durability. This 2-person, 3-season tent's nonfreestanding design includes Black Diamond's Distance Carbon AR Trekking Poles for a simple setup, even in windy conditions

Aside from the Distance Tent, the Distance Carbon AR poles are made with the lightest materials so your arms aren't burdened as you attempt rapid elevation gain. Equipped with Black Diamond's signature FlickLock design, adjustments are made easily to aid on high-mileage days or if you need to pack and store your poles for steeper, scree-laden terrain. As you travel higher into the alpine, snap on 100mm powder baskets for better purchase in early-spring snow.

This tent is super lightweight

This tent is super lightweight and packable for a long backpacking trip. I love that the poles are able to be used as the main supports for the tent and are easily able to be stored in a pack if not I did not want to carry them. I cannot wait to use this tent!

This is a good tent.

I bought this originally with the adapters, acquired the FLZ AR poles separately. I needed new poles anyway and I like integral systems. I've used it in a variety of conditions in Maine and New Hampshire, and it's robust. I won't speak to the condensation, as a good pitch can really offset those concerns. If you're familiar with single wall tents, this tent actually produces less of a problem than some others in the market. The pitch with any pole, adapter or the poles that come with, is taught and fantastic. It feels virtually bomb proof. My daughter and I used it during a downpour in Katahdin Woods & Waters National Monument, and stayed dry. I've used it now in the winter in the same area, and it sleeps warmer than some dedicated tent and fly four season or mountain tents I've used. My only beef is that the door opens inward with the fold from the bottom. In rain, that's a great way to end up with wetness inside. I may make an after-market modification, because otherwise, this tent is exactly what I want. It's a low-weight, well-priced alternative to the fairy-wing thin materials in other tarp/tent configurations in this weight class. I hope it enjoys a long life with improvements in Black Diamond's offerings.

This is a good tent.

I bought this originally with the adapters, and acquired the FLZ-AR poles separately (it was time to buy new poles, and I like integral systems, so why not?). I have used it throughout Maine and New Hampshire in a variety of conditions. I'm not even going to speak to condensation, as that

Great Simple Shelter

Got one for me and one for my climbing partner. Comfortable for one mountaineer…cozy for 2 and a dog roughing it. Nice to have in your pack to wait out storms on summit attempts. Going to be knocking out the more challenging Colorado 14ners in style! Love the product.

Eh.. not comfortable.

First, I cannot seem to get the tent as tight as it appears in the stock photos. This means when you’re inside there’s not as much room as it appears. Assembly is easy, but I agree with everyone else’s comments that 1) this is not a two person tent and 2) During three nights along with JMT The inside of my tent was soaked with precipitation, as was everything inside the tent. And additionally with the tracking poll set up, you must remember that if anything happens to your trekking poles it renders your tent unusable. I’d avoid this purchase.

Keeps the moisture in and will shred without ground cloth

While the tent does have vents, you will need some airflow. I have spent 2 nights in this tent. The first night the wind ripped through all night. The second night, there wasn't a breath of wind and the tent filled with moisture from my breath, dripping onto everything in the tent. Early in the night I realized the issue and opened the vent in the door. This did little, if anything, and the tent continued to fill with moisture. I forgot to buy a ground cloth, and boy was that a mistake. The bottom is pretty beat up after 2 days. I understand light tents tear easily, but this one isn't all that light. I expected more durability and functionality.

Just what I needed

Poles and a tent all in one? Perfect for 1-2 day hikes around south Baja where I roam. Haven’t got out in it yet but it works just swell in the backyard so far.

Not a two person tent

So far I've been trying to use this tent for two during weekend trips; I wanted something that packs small and light, and isn't fussy. The poles are great, and the tent certainly is great at pitching fast with low effort, but holy cow, does it get wet inside. There's a few reviews saying "this is basically a nice bivy, be grateful," which, sure, yeah. But I think it has some pretty fixable problems. Namely, the ventilation is insufficient except in a strong breeze or with the door wide open (which makes camping in bad weather tough), and the proportions of the tent make it so both my head and my feet touch the walls. That's pretty annoying when the walls are covered in condensation, and the condensation with two is ferocious. I'll try it with one, hopefully that will make it livable. Overall, it seems like this tent wasn't tested sufficiently in the field. Hopefully I can sell it for something that suits my needs better, or find a better use for it.

Excellent for its intended purpose.

If you are looking for a general purpose tent, then you need to look elsewhere. The distance tent is a very lightweight, high build quality shelter for up to two people. It packs down very small and won’t weigh you down. it’ll provide good protection from the elements in most scenarios. It’s quick and easy to erect, is more user friendly than a bivvy but weighs no more. If you are on a camping trip, you will probably want something more substantial and should therefore be prepared to carry more weight and greater bulk. The distance tent is good value for such a well made, quality product. But be realistic about what you want from it.
