Why We Like The Cirque Shell Jacket

The Black Diamond Cirque Shell Jacket is a technical softshell that we grab for alpine climbing and trekking in mild climates with a constant chance for rainfall. Unlike most shells, the Cirque's fabric has a four-way stretch to ensure we have full mobility on the mountain. Black Diamond treated the fabric with DWR to withstand moisture by beading raindrops right off the surface. The hood is compatible with climbing helmets, and all the pockets are accessible even with a harness on.

Great looking jacket, but ...

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Love the looks of this jacket, but the cut is so very slim - and this is coming from a guy that is 5'11" and 160 lbs. I can usually wear a medium in most brands, but I can barely zip this one all the way up. And the sleeves are so tight there would be no way to layer this jacket over anything except a short sleeve tee shirt. Would have given it a 4 or 5 star - but sizing is off big-time. I will try a large, but its been over 30 days and now the black large is not in stock - bummer - I'll give it to my teenage son.

Runs slim

Gave it 3 stars because this was a really nice looking jacket, however the size chart was way off and the jacket was way too small. VERY slim fit. The Men?s small barely zipped on my skinny teenager. No room for layers. Returned before wearing.

Great Jacket

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Love this jacket. I have tried numerous brands (Marmot, Ortovox, Mammut, Arcteryx) to find the perfect soft shell, and I think this is it. Lean, trim fit, but not euro-tight, with nice long sleeves. Looks much better in real life than the picture on the website. Comfortable, stretchy fabric that seems abrasion resistant, but still has some stiffness and body to it. A great all-around mountain soft shell: can be layered up or worn with just a single layer underneath. Have not tried it under intense mountain precip conditions yet, but I have a hard-shell for that. Has a nice BD technical look without being over the top. I got the red. It's super bright (nobody will lose you in the rocks) but a nice change after all the earth-tones out there for men.
