A must-have for any outdoor wanderer.

With its sleek design and surprisingly powerful beam, the Black Diamond Astro Headlamp is the ideal choice for everything from sunset summits and dawn patrol ski tours to camping trips and backpacking adventures. It's ultralight and compact so you can stash it as a just-in-case for day hikes or put it in your week-long pack as a backup option, but is still powerful enough to rely on as a main option when camping. Plus, it resists snow and rain from any angle, so it won't get sidelined when it's raining sideways or dumping snow.

Just what I needed

This headlamp is very affordable and has multiple settings and it tilts. It's exactly what I wanted.

    Simple and effective

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Bought this to mount on my bike helmet using zip ties. I own the Black Diamond Spot as well. The Astro is a dumbed down version of the Spot. Features a strobe effective, and dimmer. If you’re looking for a simple, reliable, bright, and durable headlamp look no further.

    Used it for Wildland Firefighting

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This lamp is very bright for a $20 lamp. At the time I was seeking a torch that was bright but did not cost more that about $25 in the event that I broke or lost it on the fireline. This fit the bill. Did not replace the batteries all summer and never had any issues. Nice, big, easy to find in the dark button. I also own a BD Revolt lamp for alpine climbing and this one does indeed hold a candle to the Revolt, aside from no rechargeability function. Would recommend.
