Black Diamond 9.6 Rope
Black Diamond9.6 Rope

A rope is a rope is a rope.

Like all climbing ropes in Black Diamond's lineup, the 9.6 Rope certainly doesn't need a name as over-dramatic as the Lifeline or as iconic as Camalot, because climbs come and go, but ropes stay the same. This rope retains a versatile diameter that fits in at crags, gyms, and multi-pitches. Its Endurance sheath stays strong against rocky edges and sandy floors, and there's a half mark that helps you find the rope's center faster for easier rappels.

  • Single climbing rope with versatile diameter for sport or trad
  • Burly Endurance sheath stays strong against sharp edges
  • Half mark identifies center for quicker rappels

Glide rope

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This rope is a fantastic 60M, I've been using it for about a year now and it's held up with great durability. Very happy BD is making ropes.

BD Has My Heart

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

When I found out Black Diamond started making ropes, I decided I had to give this one shot. I'm so glad I did. All it took was a time or two, and this rope has been solid every since. I decided on the 70 m, and it really isn't as bulky as I expected. Even after a good amount of use and a couple falls, I don't see any signs of wear besides some dirt. Its super smooth and solid, just like I would expect from any BD product.

Solid

Seems to be holding up fine. I've used this rope through the summer and am loving it even more as the sport season is truly beginning here in Utah. I've taken a bunch of falls on it and, so far, it isn't showing much wear. Solid sheath - sturdy core. No complains.

Can't go wrong with this rope

Supple, easy to tie knots, holds in belay devices very well. Seems to take abuse pretty well. Black Diamond always comes through with their products. This rope is no exception.

    Amazing

I love this rope, feels amazing, looks great and is easy to see while the climber is clipping. Great to lead with!

    Standard BD Excellence

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have always loved my Black Diamond climbing gear. The design and durability of their products is unparalleled in my opinion. So far, this rope is no different. It has provided soft catches on multiple falls and shows no signs of wear. I'm looking forward to many more days on the rock.

    Thanks for the review, Cole!

    great all around

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I christened this rope via 4 weeks in Joshua Tree, which has been notoriously rough on previous ropes I've owned. So far so good, no fuzzy sheath damage or other issues I've noticed. It's a great lead rope for multi-pitch trad, hard sport, or setting up top-rope lines. Even took a few falls and enjoyed the soft catches. Only thing to knock it for is that it seemed to get dirty surprisingly fast and it's already very difficult to see the middle marker.

    Light and Smooth!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is my third rope and I like it more than any other rope I've ever used. It is the perfect diameter at 9.6mm. It feels light and smooth when you're pumping out and your trying to clip in to your next piece of pro. It also feeds really well through both an ATC and a Grigri.

    Cuerda!

Not suprisingly, this rope is solid! I got the 60m Red-Orange - and have been impressed with the feel and action on the rope.

Right out of the packaging this thing is ready go! No twists, no mess, I just flaked it out and boom! I climbed a 4 pitch slab route and had no twists, even after a few friction full rappels off quicklinks.

The feel of the rope is both supple and sleek, and is super nice while belaying. Feeds great and is easily handled. And, like i said before, no twists!

Haven't had the chance to take a fall yet, but judging by the elasticity on rappel, this rope will catch soft and great.
