Blacktail 2 Tent

When the trail's calling, there's no time to wait; so load up your pack, grab the Big Agnes Blacktail 2 Two-Person Three-Season Tent, and leave civilization behind. Just because you leave the comforts of home for the mountains doesn't mean you'll be roughing it, seeing as the Blacktail's a lightweight, tough, and waterproof shelter that'll have you and your partner livin' the high life.

At just 4.5 pounds, the Blacktail easily lets you enjoy the protection of PU-coated, seam-taped shelter, with two doors for easy access and dual vestibules for plenty of dry gear storage. You only need two lightweight aluminum poles, too, so pitching and packing are a breeze. Media pockets on the inside have cable routing so you can catch a few minutes of alone time when your partner's getting on your nerves, and the reflective guylines and webbing reduce the likelihood of accidentally tearing your tent down on your nighttime wanderings.

  • 2-person tent for camping along the trail
  • Fly and floor are polyurethane-coated to shed water
  • Mesh walls keep bugs out but allow plenty of airflow
  • Two doors and vestibules make access easy
  • Aluminum DAC Pressfit poles are lightweight yet stable
  • Reflective guylines and webbing can be seen in the dark
  • Compatible footprint included for extra protection

Awesome standalone tent, well designed

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a well designed standalone tent with an obvious attention to details. It is well ventilated with adjustable vents and integrated ceiling storage pockets (no extra parts). The tent feels solid without having to add extra pegs in normal conditions. Standalone also means that you can move the tent around (empty) and flip it to dry it if needed.

The footprint is included (awesome Big Agnes!!) and the color coded corners make it easy to pitch the tent even in the dark (with a flashlight, of course) I think that it is a little small for two persons (I used it alone) but the two vestibule should compensate for that. Once you have 2 doors / vestibules, you never go back to an one door system...

I highly recommend this tent.

The Footprint IS Included

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The tent itself is awesome - the perfect amount of room, super easy to set up. I think the tech specs for this need to be updated, though - I saw that a footprint wasn't included, so I went and purchased the separate footprint by Big Agnes. When I went to set the tent up and check everything out, I found what could be nothing other than a footprint. Not a huge issue - I sent the extra footprint back with no issues. Just keep that in mind if you're thinking about buying - it's a great deal!

Big Agnes Blacktail Tent Series

The Blacktail two, three, and four-person tents offer spacious sleeping areas for a pair or family of campers. Easy access through two, side-entry doors and vestibules makes climbing over your tent mate for an early morning bathroom run a thing of the past. An excellent value for the entry-level backpacker or those who just want a super comfortable tent to bring on the trail.

    Wonderful Fantastic

I have owned this tent for over a year now. It has kept my partner and I dry in torrents of rain for days and days. We camped for 32 days last summer and it rained ALL 32 nights! Once we were in a tropical depression by the ocean! I trust this tent. It is pretty light, and there's room enough to fit two small people comfortably, but don't try to squeeze your dog inside. It's not roomy enough for that. The two door system is magic--never going back to one door. Coldest temp. we have slept in this tent was 20 degrees Fahrenheit and hottest was around 97 degrees with high humidity. I can put this tent up in about five minutes at night in the rain.

      The Bees Knees

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

      This tent is all that and a bag o tater chips. For the price, it can't be beat. Packs fairly light, quick easy setup, built wonderfully. I've used it several times;

      1) On My own: dropped to 30 degrees. With fly on, stayed toasty in the tent. No moisture issues. Great gear pockets that are within an arms reach when laying on your back.

      2) With The Gal: I'm 6'4",she's 5'8", fit comfortably. Next to each other, but not touching. All gear was outside in the vestibule gear loft (great that there are 2, + 2 doors.) Stayed bone dry.

** On our last trip we went with another couple who purchased a Eureka! tent from BC. Their rain fly hugged their tent, and didn't come down the whole way. We got a little bit of rain in the middle of the night, and had a chilly dewy morning. There stuff was soaked, ours was completely dry -- Even around the edges. It was difficult not to boast about the purchase I had made. Cannot say enough good stuff about this tent.

Lastly, I highly suggest the footprint. Ensures dry sleeping, fits in the same bag as the tent, on offers the option of setting up just the fly on the rare occasion you may have a bug-less night that's not too cold. Saddle up!

      Perfect home for 2

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

After scouring reviews online for backpacking tents I settled on the BA Blacktail 2 and have not been disappointed. It's super simple and quick to setup. With 2 doors it's easy to get in and out of without having to climb over your partner. Lots of pockets for headlamps, maps, books and dog collars. Plenty of room with the rainfly on to tuck bags safely under and out of the elements. I have not put it through rain yet, but am optimistic it will meet the challenge.

      Perfect home for 2
