Living large at 10,000 feet.
Your living situation at base camp probably doesn't include heated pools, home theaters and fully stocked bars, but you'll feel like you're living the good life when you're waiting out the storm in the Big Agnes Battle Mountain 2-Person 4-Season Tent. Big Agnes built this tent to maximize living space by giving it a large footprint, two doors, and two vestibules for plenty of storage. The fly is made of durable Cordura ripstop fabric, and the floor is a ripstop nylon. Both fly and floor have been treated with a water-resistant PU coating and finished with fully taped seams to keep moisture at bay when foul weather keeps you walled up for days on end.
Ventilation is key to staying dry when you're camping in cold and dry alpine environments, so Big Agnes equipped the Battle Mountain with zippered mesh vents at the front, back, and sides to keep air circulating. Heavy duty DAC NSL aluminum poles with DAC H Clip connectors help to keep the tent up when the winds rip through camp, and high/low internal guy lines and 13 lightweight Mega X stakes keep your shelter from blowing away when it feels like you're living through the first-ever alpine tornado ever recorded. Inside the tent are six mesh pockets to help keep small pieces of gear organized, and there's also an included gear loft to give you a spot to store gear off the ground and increase living space. The Battle Mountain can also be set up with just the fly, poles, stakes, and footprint (sold separately) when you need to trim some weight during fast and light mountaineering missions.

A perfect companion!
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Big Agnes nailed it with the Battle Mountain 2-Person, 4-Season Tent!
Besides all the standard accoutrements that come standard with any respectable 4 season expedition tents â burly, weatherproof construction, 2 door entries, reinforced guy points on fly and tent body, vestibule windows â a few things that really stand out to me as REMARKABLE are:
⢠Seated headspace; at 42 inches, this tent has quite a bit more room up top than other tents competing in the 2 person/4 season expedition tents. Iâm not tall, but I do need to stretch out and the added headroom offers superior gear storage, plus the gear loft is included with this tent, unlike most other brands.
⢠Vestibule roll-up design, vrs the standard teardrop, tuck to the side design; basically, you get a big opening to use instead of a cramped, half opening.
⢠Weight; 6lb 3ozâ¦which is pretty significant â the comparable MHW Trango 2 is 9+ pounds; granted you do get a tad more square footage from the Trango (40 sqft) than the Battle Mtn (30.5 sqft) and the Trango waterproof coating is thicker (1500mm vrs 1200mm), but when you start moving all your gear around, 3 pounds is a really big deal! And a note on the dimensions: Big Agnes is spot on with the listed specs, Iâve seen competing brands boast comparable tents with listed lengths as 92 inches, but actual length is more like 88 inches.
⢠Ventilation; besides the standard fly vent, the Battle Mtn hosts two vestibule vents that work great when coupled with the interior mesh door opening in foul weather.
As far as space inside, itâs on par with other tents in this genre; tight for two, but the added headroom, gear pockets and vestibule square footage (10 up front, 3.5 in the back) makes it easy living.
So far, I have had no issues (mine is 3 years old, has been to China, Canada and around the US a bit) with durability, still looks new.
