Warmth when you want it.
Whether you're headed out for a fall hike or walking down the street for a cup of pour over coffee on a cold winter day, let the Basin and Range Wasatch 800 Fill Down Jacket keep your core warm. Its 800-fill down insulation delivers on-demand warmth and is highly compressible, so you can stash it in your pack without it taking up too much space. - Q & A
This jacket is cozy... even if it is made for men.
How does the loft of this jacket compare to the Patagonia Down Sweater hoody, or the Arctreyx Cerium LT, or the MH ghost whisperer? I find whisperer to be a bit lacking in loft compared to the others, is this jacket similar to any of them in terms of loft?
Can you tell me about the construction. Is the stitching "sew through" or does it us square baffles. My understanding (limited) is that the sew through stitching creates cold spots but is more economical.
The stitching on the Wasatch 800 is sew-through although I have not experienced any cold spots while I have been using it this winter. Feel free to contact me directly with any additional questions about this jacket.

Run away down.
This is a problem. It is losing down fairly often. If this happened once or twice then no big deal, but I am finding down coming out every time I put it on now.
Staying warm for sunrise
The jacket kept me warm through frosty mornings on a recent Grand Canyon backpacking trip
So Far So Good.
This jacket has done its job of keeping me warm on some chilly mornings in the "mountains" of western PA.
Down Coming Out
does this include a cinch sack?
Mine did not. There is no external stuff sack and as far as I know from my experience with the jacket there is no internal stuff sack either like the Patagonia Down Sweater that can be stuffed into a pocket. I may be overlooking it, but nothing is listed and I have yet to find anything.

Toasty, comfy, and even blends in to the fall season. Looking for a down jacket? Take a look at the B + R Wasatch.
If you had to put a temperature rating to this jacket, what would it be? Also, how is the water resistance? Would it hold up well in a light drizzle?
Hey Alex C.
It's pretty difficult to put a specific temperature range on these types of jackets, as there's so many factors to the environment it's used in. But I'd say it's definitely suitable for the 30 degree range if I had to put a number on it. Plus you can layer up a little for extra warmth.
As for water resistance, the DWR Coating can definitely stand up to a light drizzle for sure.

to the range.
from the basin...
Is this brand, Basin and Range, a replacement of the old Backcountry house label, Stoic? I had several coats, gloves, baselayers and boxers that were the Stoic brand, and I liked them quite a bit. If this is the same manufacturer under a new brand name, is the fit similar? Or if it is not, how would this brand compare from a fit perspective? Thx!
Basin and Range is not a replacement for Stoic, it is an entirely new brand. The fit of B+R is based on the industry standard fit similar to The North Face and other top brands although I have found for this particular Wasatch Jacket the waist is a little tight in the Medium for me. I have a 34 waist.

Right Side Pocket
Extra pouch inside the right pocket.
What type of down is it? Goose? Duck? Half half?
90% Goose down, 10% mystery.
This is all goose. 90% is down, 10% are feathers.

Are you paying your employees to review & comment on this product? Because it certainly looks that way...
As a former employee my assumption would be that current employees get a good deal on this brand since it's "Backcountry Exclusive". As such you'll see a higher number of employee reviews.
As Backcountry Employees we are required to review any item that we purchase plus we were some of the first to get access to the Basin and Range gear. Feel free to shoot me any questions directly on Basin and Range.
Fair enough. It just looked kinda odd to me. Thanks for the explanations.
