Live-in pants

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

These pants are so, so great!! I bought them for a camping trip in 20 F lows and 60 F highs and they performed beyond my wildest expectations. I wore them every day; on all of my hikes, kicking it around the fire, and on the drive out and back. AND almost everyday since.

The pants are cozy on their own, but when it gets wet or windy or dark, they play well with other pairs. I was able to fit TWO pairs of long underwear underneath for extra-extra warmth, and they slip under snow pants/ rain pants/ sweats smoothly.

The cuffs are flexible enough to slide up or fold over your calf when the sun comes out, or when you're working hard.

The pockets are amazing! As other commenters have said, the zippered pocket is a little difficult to get your hand all the way into, but it's functional so it doesn't effect my rating.

I'm a big fan of the continuous elastic in the waist, it cuts bulk while allowing you to hoist them up when they get a bit stretched out with [literally] everyday wear, or if you're carrying your phone in the pocket for extended periods of time.

They wash really well (on the unexpectedly rare occasions they need it) with minimal piling, inside or out. Even in the spot my thighs rub together!

With regard to fit: I'm built tall and relatively narrow except for my wide violin hips. My bum fills up the extra room that some commenters have experienced, making them less baggy than anticipated, but without any sacrifice in flexibility! They also fit me more like capris, but I'm used to that problem with pants and I've got long socks. I would love a tall version in the future, though. And more colors! (Looking at you, basin and range.)

Another observation that's worth mentioning although it doesn't effect my overall rating: the interior seams tend to chafe if you're moving around and sweating a lot. I noticed this issue mostly around the seams on the bum. My solution was to wear underpants with more coverage; the material is thick enough that any panty line is barely discernable.

I can't wait to take them on more hikes!

Can you say comfortable?

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Wow these tights are suuuuuper comfortable. The fleece on the inside is so soft and cozy. I am not sure If I would say these are tights though. They are a loose tight I guess. They aren't as tight of a legging that you would expect. There is great stretch to the fabric and plenty of room for mobility!

More than just a hiking pant!

I freeze at ski resorts. I actually have been using this as a baselayer under my Gore-tex shell. They're great! I like the pocket (without the zipper) too. The zipper pocket is a little annoying to get into but nice it does have a closure. I think if I wore them to run in, I might have an issue with the fit. They tend to sag down in the lady region due to not having much of a waste band. There is a string for tightening though so maybe that would do the trick. As a base layer though, it doesn't matter so much!

Got to Keep the Lady Warm

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I got this for my fiancé and so far she loves them. The only thing is they are really warm! So she hasn't worn them as much, but they fit well with extra room in the waist. They also have a waist drawstring. While I heard they run a little short I got my fiancé (she's 5'7") a size medium and they fit her perfectly. Can't wait until we do colder day hikes or morning runs!

    Great lining legging

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

These leggings are so comfortable and warm! Soft and fuzzy on the inside. I enjoy having the pockets. Used as liner with technical pants for winter climbs, hiking, sledding, and snow shoeing.

great fit, warm and cosy lining

These tights worked in every way - great fit without being too tight (no underwear lines) or too loose anywhere, adjustable waist, not too long (I'm 5'4", 120 lbs and got the small), and with a luscious nap on the inside of the fabric that makes them warm and insanely comfortable - very pleasant on a winter night run. They make regular pants seem uncomfortable. I think some reviewers who had trouble with the fit, may have been expecting them to fit like tights. I think the fit is better than tights - just as sleek, but with plenty of give where helpful. It's early to say, but I've worn them repeatedly and washed them twice, and they seem to be well made. Definitely no shrinkage.

I like them a lot but...

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XS

I like these pants a lot!! I like that they are very good looking, sleek, and versatile but the sizing on these is so weird? It's almost like they fit perfectly in different parts of my body and they are also way too small in others. I think I should have gotten a small but I am not quite sure if they would have looked right and may have been too big. These are really tight through the leg area making them look cute but not at all flexible and in my waist/hip area they feel good but if I squat all the way down I might fall out of them. Other than that they fit just fine. Probably wont be doing much climbing in them or wear them to the gym. I have only worn them a couple of times so I am going to see if the draw string on the waist helps at all! I am keeping these for now but may end up ordering a small.

    So Cozy I Bought Two!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Size Bought: XS

Basin and Range really nailed the comfy factor with these pants -- they have a relaxed trouser look/feel to them but at the same time are sporty. I have a pair for the office/casual wear and another for more active use! I wore these as a thick base layer for skiing under my Flylow Foxy Bibs and they're super warm while remaining breathable. The fleece lining is gentle and nice against your skin as well -- no itchy or scratchy feeling.

The only thing is that it is just a tad on the large side -- the XS fits the way it should but with stretch i find myself hiking them back up throughout the day. The inner drawcord helps to a point but not enough to keep it secured on my hips. Large sizing is a consistent issue for me with Basin and Range products.

Basin and Range should really consider making smaller sizes for shorter/thinner than average adult women!

    Warm and Cozy with Pockets!!

This is the unicorn legging! They are warm, super comfy, and they have pockets that you can fit your phone it.
I love these so much that my mom and sister have gotten pairs as well.
They are lightly lined and not overly stretchy, yet manage to fit very comfortably.
These do run short - I'm 5'4 and they fit me really well.

Get these pants they are great

I love these pants, I bought 2 pairs. I am a size 10 and I got a medium. It is not suppose to fit like yoga pants do even they look like they should from the pictures. Its fitted but not in the hip/crotch area. I'm 5'8'' and the inseam fit perfect. If I was taller it would be bit short. I recommend you wash them in cold water so they don't shrink and line dry them. When I first tried them on I thought they were a little tight but after wearing them for a bit they fit fine.

    Great pants!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I love these things! I've had them for two months now and have worn them non-stop for winter hiking, nordic skiing, early morning dog walks, and just hanging around the house. As far as the fit goes, for me they fit more as a slim fit pant than as a tight. They have a loose waist, which I like, especially because there's a draw cord that lets you cinch them down significantly when you want to. They're nice and warm and incredibly comfy, and have a great pocket set-up, with one zipped and one open. I highly recommend!

    Warm but run short

These are warm and well made. However, I feel they run short in length. I’m 5’8” and they’re almost like an ankle pant. And, I feel if I had gone up a size, they’d be too baggy. So I stayed with the size 6 (I weight 130 lbs). Otherwise, these are true to size. I’ll just have to wear boots and thick socks with them to cover my ankles. Shorter gals will find them just perfect.

      Maybe better for slimmer silhouette

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Size Bought: XL

I was excited about these, but they didn't work with my shape (generally pear shaped). I found them to be a good fit for my thunder thighs, which is often hard to find, but they were unfortunately too big in the waist for me. Love the idea of these if they work for your shape. (And mine is admittedly difficult to shop for in general).

      Stay warm this winter!

      • Size Bought: Small

Love these pants, last week my husband said, "haven't you worn those for four days in a row now?" (Don't worry, I did the laundry half way through) They are so comfortable and look nice enough to wear out and about. The fleece is smooth on the surface and so soft and cozy on the inside. I am co;d all the time in the winter and these keep me warm and comfortable even when it's frigid out. I like the drawcord at the waist so you can cinch them to be tigheter if needed. I am definitely buying them in the charcoal too.

      The Best Pants Ever!

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: True to size

I'll say it again, these are the BEST PANTS EVER! I like that they are not ultra spandex tight, they are so fleecy and warm, perfect fit and material. I typically wear a size 2 and the XS are great.

      Comfy hiking pants!

These are great hiking pants! They are a warmer hiking pant, so they are great for the months to come. I've used them for cold morning walks with my dog, to day hikes and they have been great! They do run pretty large, so I would definitely size down.

        Hey Charissa,
Im sorry to hear these were too big!! Were they too big in the waist or more just all around? They are intended to be loose around the butt/thigh area so that you can easily move in them, but should of course be snug around your waist. I tried this pant on recently and thought it fit exactly as it should, so I do think an XS would be worth the shot! Can I get you a free return label and set you up with an exchange, risk free?
