Why We Built The Climbing Skin 2.0 With G3

We collaborated with G3 on the Climbing Skin 2.0 because there are no other skins we’d rather be rocking while repping the Goat. We utilized the glue and nylon plush found on G3’s Element skins because of the rock-solid adhesion, effortless glide, and solid traction—all with a topographic goat print that tags along for the ride. These skins feature self-aligning stainless steel tip connectors and a self-camming tail clip that are both insanely secure and easy to apply in a swift process.

Great Skins!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have 3 sets of these skins, I live in Tahoe and ski tour 3 times a week with these skins. The oldest set are for my powder skis and are on their 3rd season. I leave them glue to glue over the summer. Not sure what's not to like. They work great, the medium length on my 180 Backland 100 is perfect, the slightly shorter skin never slips and packs pretty small. The large on my 183 Vision 108 could be shorter but no complaints! The cutting tool makes trimming them a snap. At the price you really can't go wrong.

Lightweight but saturate quickly

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Bought these last spring when my old G3 skins glue failed after 10 years. Loved the lightweight, low-profile aspect. But that, as I discovered, came to impact the skin's integrity, as they would get very wet very quickly, and then the glue would fail. Any time I skin for more than two hours in warmish weather, the skins fail. Suffice to say, that's not ideal.

sizing issues

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have 181cm skis. I followed the sizing chart provided by G3 and ordered the size medium skins. They technically fit, but left almost the entire portion of the ski behind the binding with little to no skin coverage. I returned them and reordered in size large, which fits well. It does seem like the gap between medium and large skins is pretty big (the mediums seemed super small for my skis, but the larges don't really leave that much tail left to play with). If you have 180cm or longer skis you want size large. Otherwise the skins work fine.

Glue sticks to skis

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have used these skis about thirty times this winter. They glide and climb well but have left lots of glue on my ski bottoms. That slows my downhill runs and is laborious to remove. I'm very dissatisfied with them.

Sizing chart still incorrect

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

To echo most of the other reviews on here, the sizing chart is not correct. I have 177cm skis and bought the size large skins, and they were way too big. Even with the tail clip in the shortest position they don't even come close to fitting. But from other people's experience it looks like the size medium ones are too small for skis in the ~165cm range... so I guess there's no size that will fit my skis? Guess I should have read the reviews before buying.

These skins work fine.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have three sets of these skins across three alpine touring setups. One for me and two AT kits for guests. As long as you order the right size and trim them properly, they work as good as any other skin I have used. In my opinion, the G3 tail clip is the most robust out there. The glue sticks really well. There is a good balance between glide and grip. I recommend using "Skin Savers" or "Cheat Sheets" between laps and during storage. Do not store them wet, don't store them on your skis, and don't leave them in your hot car or car-top carrier. The sizing chart worked for me. I think it has been updated.

glue transferred to skis

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These skins worked well for about 2 seasons. The glue became really sticky and transferred to the skis and created a sticky mess. This seems to be a persistent problem with G3 skins? Would not recommend, unless G3 has re-formulated the glue or something to address this problem.

Quality slipping

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Coming from a ~2014 Backcountry/G3 Ascent collab skin, I'm pretty disappointed in these. I would return, but need skins this week and can't roll the dice on getting new ones in time. The nose attachment flexes out significantly, leaving gaps for snow to slide into at the front. The center rip strip advertised in the photograph isn't present, meaning these will be harder to pull at first, and will have a little less longevity as the glue loses its stick. Finally (and most importantly), my 166cm skis are smack in the middle of the recommended range for the size I purchased (S), but the actually skin material stops just a couple inches behind the heel piece of my bindings, leaving a ton of bare ski. The rubber tails on these things are super long to make up for the short skins. This skin material already glides well at the the cost of some traction, and I expect this will make steep climbs harder than they need to be. Overall, I'm unimpressed by the cost cutting.
