Wolverine Cirque Insulated Vest

Dubbed “Wolvie” by the locals, Wolverine Cirque is an iconic backcountry skiing location nestled between two of Utah’s world-renowned resorts. This small cirque boasts 16 of the steepest, tightest chutes in the Wasatch Range, and—as Backcountry Gearheads—we take it upon ourselves to ski as many as possible as often as possible before work. In order to accommodate skiers who, like us, are always pushing for more, we made a collection of technically advanced, performance-oriented, and backcountry-specific ski clothing. The Wolverine Cirque Insulated Vest contributes to the collection as our go-to insulator for highly aerobic activities like boot packing, skinning, and skiing as much as possible on a given dawn patrol.

A hybrid insulator, the Wolverine Cirque Vest is a combination of weather-resistant materials, moisture-managing fleece panels, and an innovative insulation boasting incredible breathability and stretch. Unlike standard synthetic insulators, 3DeFX+ insulation mirrors your every movement to maintain warmth and eliminate the chance of cold spots appearing overtime. Insulation this innovative deserves an equally innovative shell, so we used a stretch-woven material with a water-resistant treatment and fleece paneling to wick moisture in spots you’re most likely to sweat, contributing to a dry microclimate from the inside out.

What's the difference in fit between a size Small and Medium? How snug would either size be layered over a half-zip like a Medium Patagonia R1?

Hey Kev,

Without knowing your body size/shape I'd probably go with a Medium to fit over your Medium R1, possibly a large.

What a Vest!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

My ultimate layer for every adventure. I freaking loooooove this thing! Merino base layer, this bad larry and my shell.... Set for any condition. I do run hot though so that is a factor. Also love how the hood and collar are stretch fleece, I normally hate having a hood on a layering piece because it gets in the way with my shell hood but the collar and hood sit flush underneath my shell and work as a good layer under my helmet if it's a little colder out than normal. This vest is also very stylish and you can wear it to the bars or in the city after a day of shredding the gnar gnar with the pals. Definitely going to be using the crap out of this vest in the coming years.

Sleeveless Style!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was never a fan of wearing insulated vests until I found the Wolverine Cirque. The material is breathable and almost feels like it has an absorbent aspect to it.
The style of insulation really drew me due to how warm it stays, but doesn't have the puffy look of other vests.

A great inVESTment

I got this vest for my boyfriend and it has been a staple in his ski attire layering. Great to add a little extra warmth to the core during resort skiing or as a light, breathable piece for touring.

Who Needs Sleeves?

A relatively new addition to the current stockpile of layering pieces, the Wolverine Cirque Insulated Vest has been a go-to for early morning tours and not-so-frigid days on the hill. Perfect for the ascent, it breathes well, wicks moisture so you're not dripping in sweat once you reach the top, and the hood is perfect for blocking the wind/elements. At 5'8" and roughly 165 lbs, the medium fits perfectly. Though I'd prefer another couple inches of length, it falls just below the belt line for a solid, not bulky fit. The material is lightweight, breathable, and dries quickly. A solid choice to say the least.
