Spruces Merino 1/4-Zip Top

As the name implies, the Backcountry Spruces Merino 1/4-Zip Top is ready to rip some trees this winter. This wool baselayer features Nuyarn's innovative fabric, which wraps merino around a nylon core for durability that's soft to the touch. Wool also provides renowned temperature regulating, moisture-wicking, and odor-resistant comfort, a perfect baselayer for adventures in the backcountry. The zippered mock-neck helps you dump heat during an arduous ascent, and the next-to-skin fit is easy to layer beneath your jacket.

  • Quarter-zip baselayer top for winter time play
  • Wool blend offers thermal comfort during active pursuits
  • Zip-neck lets you vent excess heat when working hard
  • Naturally odor-resistant for fresher smelling fabric
  • Next-to-skin fit provides easy layering options

Great layer

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Super soft, and amazingly breathable, still warm and UV protected skinning up in just a base layer. One of the better base layers I have owned.

Perfect baselayer for winter and early

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: L

Bought this for backcountry skiing, use it for biking, hiking, dog walks and just enduring Park City winters

Great Gift!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Really soft and a good insulating layer. The color is nice and the thumb holes are perfect!

Stay active

I love the fit of this, and it quickly has become my go-to piece for long days in the mountains this winter. It is able to quickly wick away moisture while touring and still be dry for the ride down. From resort days to multi-day yurt trips, this piece won't let you down.

Excellent Base Layer (used in -20C)

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

Excellent Base layer, very light and quick dry. Was told it is comparable to Icebreaker - not really but close enough and given the price diff good value for money. I had the base layer, north face down jacket and north face thermoball and was snug and toasty. Highly recommend it. I used it for my EBC trek in Jan 2019 and also in Europe in -5 below my business suit and warm long coat.

    Sweet.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

Long sleeve wool is the business in winter. And having a thin layer with a quarter zip is perfect for active days.

    Awesome base layer

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: L

I got this for my boyfriend as a new base layer for cold weather recreating (XC skiing, resort skiing, touring) and he absolutely loves it. It is very comfortable, soft, and wicks moisture away phenomenally. Runs a bit large in length but maintains a nice form fit around the torso.

    Great lightweight baselayer

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

This a great merino blend baselayer piece. I bought this for my father and brother for Christmas and they loved it. My dad wears it for his morning walks and my brother wears it to the gym, cold weather running, and as a baselayer for snowboarding. They are both warm when they need to be, and also wick sweat so you don’t overheat . And with merino’s antibacterial properties you can wear them several days without washing

Feels great and wicks like nothing else

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

First time I wore this was for a long hike in 35 degree weather under a fleece and was perfect the entire time - i was definitely sweating but it wicked the moisture away from my body and I stayed comfortable the entire time.

Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
    Sleeve:
Have someone measure from the center of the back neck down the arm, with arm slightly bent, to the wrist bone.
    Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
    Inseam:
Measure from the crotch to the floor with no shoes.
    Hip:
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
