Favorite short for trails or pump trax

Easily my favorite short to pull out with my bike. Dual zip reverse pockets, extremely light weight and breathable. Great belt system compared to other brands I own.

Perfect Hot Weather Short
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Several reviewers comment on how the fit isn't right for them which is valid but that's part of the nature of any clothing including performance sport specific stuff. I'm 5'7 and 140# and for me the small was a good fit over a pair of bike shorts. BC describes the fit as "performance" and I'd agree; if you're used to a traditional baggy below the knee fit and you like that these shorts won't be for you. These shorts are slimmer and shorter though for me not tight and the material has a good amount of stretch. When wearing a full bike short underneath it shows a bit while riding but not when standing. I like the light weight of these shorts and for the hot summer that's a plus. Not sure if the perforations help the short breathe but they seem to. I won't buy shorts that don't have some type of built in belt and I like this one which does its job and isn't noticeable while riding. Two decent size pockets with zippers are adequate though when riding I generally don't keep stuff in my pockets. I can't comment on durability at this point or some features like the dwr finish as I've only used a couple times and it's been dry.

Great MTB shorts
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I'll start by saying I am a big fan of BC gear, and these are no exception. I use these for single track and gravel grinders, with Pearl Izumi padded compression shorts underneath. The fit is excellent, if on the trim side (which is good for most riders). I love the material: stretchy in all directions, lightweight but still substantial, nice hand feel to it. The Geo Topo Camo color is the gas! Two zippered hand pockets to seal the deal. They even have little cutout holes at the bottom of the thighs to help with ventilation. Very happy with the purchase, already looking at a 2nd pair.

Nice Shorts; Don't Quite Cut It
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
In the past I haven't been impressed with Stoic's clothing but I was impressed with these! There was a main flaw however which ruined the shorts for me - the seam at the end of the leg was very big, hard and rough/scratchy. When I lifted my legs I could feel them rub against the top of my thighs. For a short that is so innovative and cool in fabrics, zippers, colors, fit... this was a major design flaw in my opinion. So close yet so far! The other thing that gets me is how big and obvious the Stoic goat label is. No need to be so big! We love a reflective stamp and we love goats but less in-your-face branding would be appreciated.

Love these but new version is different
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I got a pair of these last year, tore them in a crash so got some more recently. New pair has a better belt buckle and a snap closure instead of velcro, both improvements. However, the length and bagginess of the shorts seems to have increased. Seems more like a 12" short than a 10" now, confirmed with side by side comparison. This is a bit disappointing as I found the old length and cut to be spot on perfect. I also have to cinch down the belt a lot more to get them to stay up. Other than that, material is excellent. Lightweight and dries quick. Zipper pockets and integrated belt are also helpful.

Nice but... too leg opening is narrow
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
"True to size" and loved the light grey color. Deep zippered pockets were functional. Plastic belt buckle and belt seemed very functional. BUT... the leg opening is a bit narrow and the seam is surged with a fairly loose thread and that caught on my padded inner short seam on every peddle stroke. UGH!! The inner shorts were tight fitting Pearl Izumi road bike shorts. BTW, I have "normal" stout biker thighs and not monster Velodrome track thighs. I have a 34" waist and 30" inseam (5'10" / 190 lbs / 22% body fat) the large fit perfectly in terms of length and waist. The tiny holes melted through the fabric for "ventilation" at mid-thigh... hokey. Not a serious attempt at increasing ventilation.

fit great and stay put
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
normally i loose everything off my butt while i'm riding because i lack one. These stay put very well. no stopping to pull them up or adjust them. set the belt and forget it. Super stretchy material. i highly recommend trying a pair. i like these much better than my dakine and bontrager shorts neither of which stay put!

Great lightweight short for long rides. The waist band is very comfortable and the perforated thighs actually worked. Ordering a second pair.

Switch to side pockets please
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I love this material. It is light weight and breathes as good as any MTB short out there, which has been essential this hot humid east coast summer. It also is more durable than my YETI Teller shorts (my previous favorite for high temps). The plastic belt closure feels a little small and cheap, but has performed very well. The ventilation holes in the leg turn white when close to my leg, which some might not like, but I am glad for the breathability. My only grip with these shorts, and what keeps them from being an awesome deal at this price for a hot weather riding short is the pockets are right on top of the my legs when I am riding. No way I am keeping anything in them on a ride. Please put them on the sides so there is no risk of the contents stabbing me as I pedal. The empire shorts have very nice side pockets, and I don't need hand pockets and side pockets.

Quality issues
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Bought these shorts because of the light weight material and price. Unfortunately they have been a bit of a disaster. The seems on both pockets have opened up rendering the pockets useless and due to the light stretchy material the crotch gets hung up on my saddle every time I lean back a little. Love backcountry but these shorts, not so much.
