Why We Built The Backcountry Stansbury Down Hooded Jacket

Whether you're skiing fresh pow, chilling at the crag, or simply headed into town, the Backcountry Stansbury Down Hooded Jacket will keep you warm on the chilly winter days. We filled it with premium goose down for packable warmth, and included an incorporated stuff sack for compact storage when you're on the move. The down-proof ripstop shell prevents insulation from poking out, and it's treated with a water-resistant finish, but the regular fit will easily layer beneath a shell if the weather gets too wet and stormy.

Bad zipper

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I loved this coat and was really disappointed that the zipper was so difficult to use.

Zipper Complaints

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Okay, the zipper is a little bit challenging- it's a double zip, so you have to make sure both zipper pulls are all the way down/clicked in before you insert the zipper - you have to be a bit deliberate about this and make sure it is all the way in before you try to pull up the zipper. But it's no big deal. That being said, I am zipping it up in the house without gloves on- would I want to take this jacket winter hiking/backcountry skiing and be fiddling with a finicky zipper while my hands are freezing or bound up in thick gloves? No, no I would not. Bottom line- for wearing to work, around town and staying cozy on subzero VT mornings- I love this jacket- it is toasty warm, has some "heft" to it (not a "down sweater") and the colors are very pretty. It is boxy- which is fine with me, because I am boxy too- if you are looking for something to fitted, this is not a good choice. I am between a medium and large, I ordered a large and it fits well, with enough room for a layer underneath if needed.

Wanted to Love It!

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

It is super cute! I love the colors. Unfortunately, like others have said, it is a very straight fit. It does not leave room to accommodate for bust or hips. I also found it tight in the arms. So bummed because I wanted to love it!

Was hoping for better - stay away

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought the jacket for my wife for Christmas, when she opened the gift her eyes lit up with excitement, until she attempted to try it on. She couldn't get the zipper up, it kept jamming, took her about 5 minutes to finally get it up with the help of our daughter. Then the pocket zippers kept getting stuck in the material around it. Finally, she found the top of the jacket's fit very too tight. I went to return it and it said it was past 30 days (since i ordered it early for Christmas) and have to pay shipping charge to send back :-( This was the first Backcountry brand item I bought and sadly after seeing the quality I won't buy another and stick to brand names, too bad because the jacket colors look great.

Wanted to love but...

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Love the look of this jacket! I tried it on, I thought it fit well (not as straight as some other reviewers mentioned). Fit me well in the hips (and I have larger hips) but it would have been tight if my chest was larger (I'm a 36B). Returning though because I didn't LOVE it and also the zipper is super weird. It was really difficult to manage and zip up - which is the primary reason why I'm returning. Not sure if it's poor quality or what, but the design just didn't work for me.

Seems warm, returning

This jacket seems warm, but the hood doesn't have a draw string and it was too big. I am 5'10'' , 150 and ordered a large following the guidance to size up. May get a medium

Fit everywhere but the hips

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Agree with the other reviewer that said this was not made for anyone with hips. Very straight jacket, zero stretch. Fit everywhere except my hips, undecided if I?ll return for the next size up or just return. I typically wear a M to L in all items, always get coats in large which I ordered for this jacket. Other than fit, the jacket is beautiful, love the colours. Can?t speak much about the warmth rating. I quickly tried it on outside when it was 35* and I was chilly, but I also wasn?t doing anything other than standing outside and I didn?t have warm layers on underneath.

Not deisgned for women with curves

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

This jacket looks like it would serve its intended purpose as a packable jacket for overnight backpacking however, this jacket does not accommodate women with any sort of curves. The jacket is basically a straight, narrow box with sleeves and a hood with no room for hips or breasts.

I wish it had worked

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I felt pretty sure about what size to order based on the other reviews. However, it ran big for me. I?m 5?6? and about 130 lbs. I?m small chested (34A) and this may be where I differ. I ordered the medium to allow for layers. But even with a fleece underneath it was just way to big in the body. The hip and arm length fit perfect though. And I loved the matte color, hood, and sleeve cuffs.

Your Everyday Puffy

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Love the look and fit of this jacket. It has a nice matte finish, big hood (with ability to cinch down for a tighter fit), and a nice cuff design. Ordered the Orion Blue and it's beautiful in person! I ordered a medium so I'd have room for layers underneath and am happy with the fit, although it looks a little baggy in the back if wearing over a thin baselayer. My only gripe is that I have a hard time with the zipper at times, seems to get stuck and can be difficult to zip unless you're very intentional. I'm 5'3", 125 lbs, 28 in waist and broad shoulders for sizing reference.
