Takes too long to dry

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XL

Great fit, it runs tight so I ordered a size up and it was perfect. They are stretchy as well, which is great for movement. The length of the short was also perfect, sun's out - thighs out.

The not so great is that it takes forever to dry. I went on a beach vacation and the shorts were still damp a few hours later after getting out the water.

I would buy all the colors if they dried fast like regular swim shorts.

Great shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: M -> L

These have become my new summer favorites. Done several hikes and impromptu trail runs in them and find them to be great on the trail. Used them for a few days on a SUP as well. The zipper pocket on the right thigh fits a key perfectly and its nice to know that it stays secure there.

Will note that I’m usually a size 34 and found the Medium size to be just a little too snug, thus upsized to a Large and find it to be a great fit.

Good for casual wear

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

Light, stretchy, good material, and perfect length. Has an inner liner so good hold and no worry of flashing some random.

But this short is dragged down by its classic design. It has those old school mesh pockets at that horrible angle that just anchor you when swimming or such. I have kiteboarded and surfed in these and do not recommend. The pockets need a zipper or closing system for active use. That or change the angle of the pocket so it doesn't bucket and sea anchor when you're doing anything in the water.

I will probably just use these for beach volleyball.

Update: Ended up returning. They take so long to dry compared to my patagonia shorties. Like hours instead of 15 minutes to dry.

Backcountry Baggies!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: M

If you like your Patagonia Baggies 5" shorts, you'll love these! These are a very similar material and fit, but with a couple key differences. The Backcountry Pecos Water Shorts have 4 pockets to the Baggies 3. I like the fact that the Pecos have a small zippered pocket on the right side, perfect for keys! In my opinion, the liner on the Pecos is more comfortable than the Baggies liner, it's a softer more breathable fabric. I also like the clean look of the Pecos, the black ones almost look nice enough to wear to dinner! (at a casual restaurant haha)

I do agree that they run a smidge small, they are a tighter fit. I am usually a 32 in pants & went with M, and it will work for me, but if I was closer to a 34, I don't think M would work! It's not a bad idea to order multiple sizes and make sure they'll work for you.

Overall, I'd absolutely recommend these to someone looking for a water short for paddle boarding, rafting, kayaking, tubing, or really anything outdoors!

Have someone measure from the center of the back neck down the arm, with arm slightly bent, to the wrist bone.
Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Hip:
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Inseam:
Measure from the crotch to the floor with no shoes.
