Whether you're riding the resort or skiing the wilds, the Backcountry Matilda Baselayer 1/4-Zip Top is there to keep you warm and dry. It features a Nuyan fabric, which wraps merino wool around a durable nylon core, offering a soft touch that's ready for action. An ideal baselayer, wool helps you regulate your temperature, wicks moisture away from your skin, and is naturally odor resistant. The next-to-skin fit is easy to layer, and the 1/4-zip neck offers added ventilation.

  • Temperature regulating top for backcountry pursuits
  • Innovative wool blend is warm, wicking, and durable
  • Quarter-zip neck can be opened for extra ventilation
  • Next-to-skin fit provides easy layering options

nice shirt

I love it

Flattering and Warm

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

Per my wife:

This base layer is great for layering on cold days or for a single layer under a micropuff for warmer days. I usually wear this on top of a thinner layer so I don't notice the itch, although the wool doesn't seem to bother me stand alone either. The fit is super flattering, great length and soft feel. I would highly recommend this layer! I have also washed it multiple times this season and it remains same quality.

Backcountry Matilda Baselayer 1/4-Zip

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This baselayer has a flattering fit and is comfortable to wear, but is a bit on the itchy side. The material is really thin, even for a baselayer so it's not as warm as I would like. Overall, it's an okay baselayer.

VERY thin

  • Size Bought: Extra small

I liked the color and pattern, but the material was too thin for my taste. The extra small fit perfect, however. I’m 34x26x34 (B cup)

great fit

    and non-itchy

    Quality issues

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Size Bought: xsmall

it was a gift to my wife so she can use during the ski season and she's a little bit disappointed.
Though it looks fancy and kept my wife warm during our stay in Vermont , with temperatures between 42/32 , after a couple of times in the washing machine , it has already shown pills all over the baselayer making us doubt about the product's quality.
She wouldn't buy this product again.

Hey Fernando, I'm sorry that you have experienced pilling with this baselayer. There are some specific washing instructions with this garment because the wool fabric requires more technical care. The label reads as follows: Machine Wash
    Delicate wool cycle
    Inside out
    Do not bleach, no chlorine
    Do not Tumble Dry
Slow Spin or Flat dry in shade
    Cool iron
    Use wool detergent

    Keeps me warm

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: extra small

this top keeps me warm when out riding in the mountains and is comfy . I did not find it itchy or uncomfrtable, the collar and zipper are different then i expected but that part doesnt bother me too much, i just want to stay warm out there and it definitely does the job. It does run quite small, i kind of wish i bought a size up since i bought an extra small but its not unbearable, in fact since its snug it probably keeps me warmer. but other then that i love it and its my go to when im outside in frigid temps!

not a fan of zipper and collar

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Size Bought: small

Unfortunately I did not like the collar. It was itchy on my neck. I ended up buying the version of this shirt without the zipper. It's great and I didn't find it itchy at all.

    A new favorite!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

Love the wool quality and fit of the top! It's the perfect layer for warmth, and makes for a great wear alone when I get too warm.
I bought the turq print, and love all of the details!

    How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
    Chest:
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
    Sleeve:
Have someone measure from the center of the back neck down the arm, with arm slightly bent, to the wrist bone.
    Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
    Inseam:
Measure from the crotch to the floor with no shoes.
    Hip:
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
