Why We Built The Cardiac GORE-TEX PRO Jacket

Nothing gets our heart racing like ripping a big mountain line full of untouched snow in our Cardiac GORE-TEX PRO Jacket. Named after one of the premier backcountry zones in Utah's Wasatch Mountains, this jacket uses a GORE-TEX PRO laminate to wick sweat on the skintrack and ensure we can move freely through open powder fields. For added waterproofing on the lifts, we made this jacket with reinforced shoulders, as well as large chest pockets that hold our skins so we can change over for another lap quicker then ever.

  • Backcountry-ready jacket built for storm days in the high alpine
  • GORE-TEX Stretch membrane moves with you while blocking wet snow
  • Ripstop shoulder patches boost durability and waterproofing
  • Fully sealed seams prevent water from sneaking into your layers
  • Helmet compatible hood traps heat while blocking wind gusts
  • Plethora of ski and ride specific pockets keep us organized
  • Wrist gaiters and an adjustable hem traps additional heat

Like this with the matching bib

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

I ski around 100 days a seasons and needed to upgrade my ski pants and jacket. I wanted a a matching set, jacket and bib, this time around. So decided to give this jacket a try along with the matching bib, they were on sale I think 30% off. I ordered M in both, my typical size in gear like this...the fit is just right for me. Quality of the gear so far is premium and meets all my "tech" needs, you will find a few hidden features that are nice...particularly in the jacket, there are small vent zippers on either side of the full zip that make the jacket extra comfortable while wearing fully zipped up. Nice color too..., got the green/olive color and, to me, in person it falls more in an army green color hue, which I think looks good...

Jacket has it all!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I have been putting this jacket through the wringer the first month of the ski season here in Montana. The Gore-tex stretch membrane is strong and a perfect thickness so I can layer up underneath and still get great maneuverability. I am 5' 10" and prefer a slightly bigger fit so went with the Large, its perfect. If you are any shorter and prefer a fitter style then I would go with a Medium. A couple things I absolutely love: endless amount of chest pockets, neck vents, horizontal lower pocket for easy access with pack on, articulated back, and the rip stop shoulder fabric. Olivine/Everglade colors absolutely pop! I was given this product by Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. I had to get the whole kit I liked it so much!

Jacket has it all!

Shoddy

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: L

What I thought was an excellent value for a Gortex Pro jacket, the craftmanship is less than acceptable. The zipper is left-handed, not a deal-breaker, but very annoying. What gives it a 1 star in my mind is that the powder skirt buttons did not line up. I don't know if it's a one off or a design flaw. Will exchange and update my review.

Hi Chris! We apologize for the powder skirt buttons not lining up correctly. They should line up, so if you have not received a replacement yet, we would be happy to send you one or help find another jacket for you.

Great Jacket - Unfortunately not for me

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: L

This jacket is an incredible jacket for the money. Looks like it's bombproof and great style/ looks/color if that's important. Great price for a Gore-Tex Pro shell. I love a lot about the jacket, but there were a few things that didn't work for me. The first is I have thick gloves and wrists apparently. The closure at the end of the arms has a space between two areas of velcro. The "loose" is too loose for my gloves for a good fit, and the "tight" is too tight to be comfortable. The in between area of a few inches has no velcro. Secondly, and more problematic was the hood closure. The hood is huge, but I think a lot of hoods are these days. The issue for me is that it only has one cinch cord at the back of the head. I like to have that and the two on either side at the front of the neck zipper. I'd be leery that I couldn't cinch it down enough on a cold day or in a blizzard. The last relatively minor beef was the zipper comes of on the left side instead of the right when you're wearing the jacket. Not a huge deal, but kind of odd to me. At any rate the wrist closures and hood together are deal breakers for me because otherwise this is a phenomenal jacket. Well even with those, it probably still is a phenomenal jacket, just not a great choice for me unfortunately.
I was downsizing from a very old 3 layer goretex jacket. It was huge an XXL, which I was always swimming in, then I lost 30 lbs. The large gave me plenty of flexibility, though I might like my jackets a bit looser than most these days, but it wasn't baggy. Sizing was great with that perspective.
I'm really disappointed I see those few issues because this coat really is awesome if those things don't bother you.

Top of the Mountain

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I was lucky enough to test this out last season during the most epic weekend at Jackson Hole. When the conditions are harsh the Cardiac is at it's best. The vented neck zips allow you to stay fully zipped up without having to worry about your goggles fogging up. Pocket placement that works great with my ski pack so everything is accessible without having to remove any gear. The pass pocket located on the wrist is so much easier than the shoulder placement you see in other jackets.
Overall just a well made piece of gear with premium materials that will hold up for seasons to come.

Love it
