Get to the top in the backcountry with a little help from Backcountry.com.

Don't let crappy skins interfere with your backcountry stoke. To help you reach the summit with minimal effort and maximum fired-up-ness, Backcountry.com is offering a exclusive print version of G3's Alpinist skin. It features self-aligning stainless steel tip connectors and a self-camming tail clip to make getting your skins on and keeping them there a quick and easy process. They're made with a glue that grips no matter the temperature, so you won't have to worry about sliding down the skintrack during freezing-cold dawn patrols.

No nonsense, inexpensive option

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought these for my powder touring skis, and they're fantastic. Good base adhesion, good traction, can't complain about the glide. I'll let you know after next winter how durable they are.

I have a rossignol xv 164 w what size skins do I need for this board.

too big

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

according to the sizing chart, I ordered the SM for a 155 ski and they were way too big...

Love this skin

Works great for me, wish they came with a skin saver.

    No brainer for the price

got these for my brother - great traction and easy on/off. Durable components and included cutting tool make these a great choice.

      Climbs and Glides

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I ordered this skin for my 175 Armada VJJ and the skin fits perfectly, I didn't even have to trim them! The traction is great in a variety of snow conditions, and I can efficiently glide on them when I do have to skin ski a section. Two thumbs up!

      Stellar Skin

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought these for myself earlier this winter and loved their utility so much, I got a matching pair for my wife! Easy on and off despite the hooks at the tip instead of the loop. Still able to take these skins off without having to take off my skis. Would definitely recommend getting a pair of skin savers because the 'skin savers' included with these guys are just a thin sheet of plastic that degrade very quickly. Performance of the skins themselves however are fantastic.

      Great skins

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The other reviews do not lie – these were super easy to trim! As mentioned by others, it would be nice if they came with some savers. But for the price, you really can’t beat these. Would definitely recommend.

      Good Skins!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

G3 makes an excellent skin, good traction, good glue, and super easy to cut, the cutting tool is prime time, if you dont know how to use it, google it. Make sure to put the skins on before you trim them though..not me but a friend bought the wrong size and trimmed them...it wont end well for you. They dont come with a skin saver, but that's why they're cheap, so if you're a telemark skier with duct tape on your early 90's North Face jacket, these are the skins for you.

      Also they look cool!

      Good Skins!

      Great skin, no saver.

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've used these on a couple of moderate tours now and I'm very happy with the performance of the skins. Setup was easy, just mount the skins and use the included trimming tool. Process was about as easy as it gets.

The skins climb well, plenty of grip up the skin track. But to echo other reviewers, there is no meaningful saver included with these skins. That flimsy thing you threw away when you bought them, apparently that is the saver. Buy a real saver separately and you should enjoy these skins for a long time.

      Glue failure

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I hate to be the guy writing a negative review but these failed on me on the first use. On third skin of the day in cold powdery conditions the skins came off, first one and then the other. Snow had worked its way under the edges and caused them to be loose and sliding around. The tip and tail attachments are good but can not hold the skin in place by themselves. You might call this user error and maybe your right but I've had other skins for 8 years and never had this kind of total failure. Even after bringing them home, drying them off and warming them up the glue is hardly sticky at all in some places. It's probably just a one off pair of skins that just didn't get the glue applied properly. I probably wouldn't let this dissuade you from buying a pair until you see a few more reviews reporting the same issue

      Good skins, savers not included

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Just used for the first time. Fit and performed very well. Good value for money. They include a trimmer tool that worked nicely. Directions say to use the included skin savers between use - there were none included. I was looking for something similar to what I received with my Black Diamond skins. When I called Backcountry to inquire the rep said that the flimsy piece of plastic that I peeled off and discarded is what G3 considers to be their skin saver. Pathetic. Might as well use saran wrap. Just ordered the savers separately. G3 - add $10 to the cost and sell a complete and respectable product. You're doing a disservice to otherwise quality skins.

      Unanswered Question

Do these skins come with the trim tool? All the reviews say they do, but I do not see it in the product description.

Great Skin, Great Value from Backcountry

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The G3 Ascension skin is a very well designed product with the highest rated connections to the ski and a good balance for weight, glide and traction. You cannot go wrong with these skins.

      Good skins

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These skins are work well and will save you a couple of bucks. They're basically a G3 skin. They do exactly what they are supposed to do and they're easy to cut and manage.

These skins are wonderful and very easy to trim. They come with a trimmer that makes them ready for use as soon as you want to trim them to your ski. My husband and I have no problem skinning up steep terrain in the cottonwoods, and have had no issues when them so far at all. We are taking them on a Yurt trip to the Uintas this month and are very excited to use them. As with all skins, they can be a little tricky to remove since there is such a large surface area of adhesive, but once you get them rolled up they are easy to stick in the bag they come with and back into your pack.

Helpful tip when sizing your skins: You want to get skins that are as wide (or wider) than the widest part of your ski. As much surface area you can cover with your skin the better. However, if you have parts of your skis showing at the top and bottom, with a rockered ski, thats absolutely ok. So if you get them and you have about a cm on the side where the skin first meets the ski, they will work just fine.

Also for good "skin" care, make sure to let them dry out once you get home.

      Great Skins!

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought these as a gift for a friend before a ski trip, and he never had any issues with his skins for the entire week. Seemed really happy with them.

      Great Skins

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

G3 skins glide like a dream and stop on a dime! Easy to trim with the included tool. Carrying case is also a nice touch. Best bang for the buck for climbing skins.

      New Skins work Magic!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought these to replace my 5 year old BD skins. I absolutely love these and you can never complain about the G3 cutting tool! Their tool is incredible and takes 5 minutes to cut the skins.

These skins are a great upgrade compared to my old ones as I'm no longer sliding back on the skin track and the glide feels much better.
