The lightweight and burly Backcountry 320 Probe is your ticket to a quick search and recovery when every second counts. It's made from durable 7001-T6 aluminum tubing and deploys with a single pull of the cable. Speed cone technology allows for quick assembly and increased cable durability. Five-millimeter incremental markings along the probe allow you to quickly assess snowpack depth or the length of a ruschtblock while performing stability tests.

  • Goatworthy probe for quick search and recovery in the backcountry
  • Durable aluminum tubing collapses to less than a foot in length
  • Speed Cone technology and single-pull design for quick deployment
  • Increment markers for assessing snowpack depth

Long pokey stick.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Long light and hope I never have to use it

Very long

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

One of the reasons I ordered this probe was for the length while extended. In Utah we have a deep snow pack and that could lead to deep burials and when it comes to finding my friends I don't make any compromises. However this thing is wayyyy too long when it is folded up. It doesn't fit in either my black diamond dawn patrol 25l or my black diamond anarchist 35l. In the anarchist, due to the design of the pocket it can stick out, but in the dawn patrol it has to be jammed in diagonally and it is very difficult to remove. Not great for fast deployment. Other than the length, this is a solidly constructed, fairly light probe at a great price. I would suggest getting on that folds shorter however.....

Too long when folded.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

The probe seems fine, but its collapsed length is incorrectly listed at 17.7inches. It measures out to almost 22inches. These inches normally wouldn't matter but it doesn't fit inside my BCA float 22... Thats a big deal.

Too long when folded.

Good So Far!

Luckily I haven't had to use this yet, but I have some good initial impressions.
Lightweight and good length folded up, fits well in my Patagonia Snow Drifter 20L.
Stoked to be all geared up for this season!
