If you have a disc-compatible 'cross or road frame and you're still running rim brakes, it might be time to consider replacing them with the Avid BB7 Road Disc Brake Caliper and G2 Rotor. Avid's two-piece forged aluminum caliper has an easy-to-use Tri-Align system that makes it easy to increase or decrease stopping power in just a few minutes, and comes with a G2 Clean Sweep rotor that serves up serious all-weather stopping power without the sketchiness or delay of rim brakes. The rotor is available in 140mm or 160mm, attaches with a classic six-bolt configuration, and is designed to work well with short-pull road brake systems.

Divide Proven

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These little mechanical disc-braking wonders saw me safely down the Continental Divide in 2015, and may many trips in the years since that big ol' trip. The Avid BB7s are a time-proven MVP of long trips and quick fixes. They do their job well and are simpler to repair in the field than a hydraulic brake set. Overall, would recommend these for folks looking to build up a touring/bikepacking rig, as they will serve you well for miles and miles.
