Maximum paddling comfort.

Astral Buoyancy made the Ronny Personal Flotation Device with a lightweight, breathable design that gives you plenty of room to maneuver for high-angled paddling and that plays nicely with the high-backed seat of your boat. In your excitement to get out on the water, you might even wear it in the car as you zip toward the shore (although unless you have your kayak on your roof rack, other motorists at stoplights might do a double-take). While women can wear the Ronny, the Astral Buoyancy Linda PFD offers ladies a better-fitting, gender-specific PFD.

PE foam panels provide 16 pounds of buoyancy and maximum range of motion. Articulated around your chest and super-skinny in the back, the paneling not only offers life-sustaining support but also a comfortable, custom fit. Side webbing straps can be adjusted to accommodate layers if you're paddling across the lake on a cool, fall morning. Rugged 200D nylon won't whimper with the occasional pow from a paddle or scrapes with the side of the boat. Inside, mesh helps move moisture so your kayaking stays dry, comfortable, and cool.

The sheer quantity and quality of the pockets on this PFD will make you think twice about only wearing it on the water. One of the pockets unzips to reveal a mesh bevvie holder—which means you can safely stash your suds when you need two hands to hold your sandwich. Other pockets offer to hold your waterproof point-and-shoot, sun-safe lip balm, or a small fly box for when midge fishing is prime. With minimal bulk and basic features, the Ronny PFD suits paddlers of just about any skill level whether your boat of choice is a canoe, sit-on-top, angler, recreational, or touring kayak.

Kayak Hunting Vest

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is my first time really kayaking, and purchasing a PFD. But for what it's worth, I love it. Fits well, and is plenty comfortable while paddling - I forget I'm even wearing it. And an unexpected perk is the size of the pockets. I can fit my iPhone XS Max in the left pocket where I can easily access it while out.

bought this for kayaking and the light padding in the back makes it extremely comfortable when floating on the lake. Large openings on the sides allow for full range of motion and all the pockets are great for storage.

    Astral Ronny PFD

I bought this vest for paddling and it sticks out too far in front to allow full freedom of arm motion. There are other lower profile PFDs out on the market that are more comfortable for paddling.

Hi there - The Ronny is designed more for high back seats and sit on top kayaks. If you are in a tight cockpit, then the Ronny might not be the best choice. Try the YTV for best freedom of arm movement!

      Thank you,

      Astral Ronny Personal Flotation Device

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Purchased this pfd because I really wanted something with a slim back piece that wouldn't be uncomfortable in my fishing kayak. The back portion is quite thin, which is great, but the front is a bit thicker than the picture indicates. I do really love the pfd though and I would buy again. I am 5'7'' 145lbs and purchased the S/M size. It fits great. Here is a youtube video of me turtling my kayak wearing this bad boy. I did indeed float.

      Great fit

I just received this PFD and was able to try it out while sitting in my Cuda 12 kayak with a high back lawn chair type seat. The back is very comfortable against my kayak seat. The straps are easily adjustable for a good fit. Seems like it will have the all day comfort I was looking for and with the vented thin foam back it will be cool enough down at the coast during hot Texas summers. Plus plenty of pockets for storing little fishing or personal items without having large bulky pockets.

      Great PFD for Kayak Fishing

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've been using this PFD by Astral since June of this year and it is EXCELLENT! Plenty of room to move my middle-aged arms with no danger of rubbing. Fits like a glove and feels secure and plenty adequate. I use it both for kayak fishing and just exploration trips. I'm not a super-strong swimmer, but the Astral Buoyancy Ronny PFD gives me that extra feeling of confidence when I'm on water that's deeper than my comfort zone. Highly recommend this PFD.

      Great PFD for Kayak Fishing

      Fly Fishermans dream PFD.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased this PFD to use for fly fishing on my drift boat. This PFD has tons of open arm space which wont constrict your arm while casting as well as rowing. This PFD has multiple draw cords to adjust the PFD to fit a variety of different sized fisherman. I am 5'11 and about 160, I purchased the L/XL, which was a tad big on me but fit my uncle perfectly who is 6'2 215. Another bonus feature is the fold out beverage holder which is great when you don't have a spare hand for your ice cold brew.

      Let's see a pic, Patrick!
