Tough hikes need good boots.

Asolo designed its Men's Shiraz GV Boot for backpacking over technical terrain with heavy loads. A Gore-Tex performance comfort lining gives this boot guaranteed waterproof breathable protection that also provides optimized climate control for moderate conditions. This boot's upper features a water-resistant Schoeller K-Tech Micro fabric that regulates your foot's temperature, and suede overlays keep the boot strong for many years of technical trekking.

The Shiraz utilizes an Asolo Vibram Ascent sole to give you the traction you need in slippery situations. Its Lite 2 footbed provides some cushy foam with an added EVA collar around the heel for extra support, stability, and comfort. The dual-density microporous midsole and the PU anti-shock insert at the heel make sure your feet can handle the hard hikes as well as the fun times when you finally reach the campsite.

What is the weight per pair?

bombproof

I bough these shoes a year ago. Initially they were so nice I was hesitant to use them. I use them to hike forest trails in California. With the recent rain, they have been initiated into ten mile hikes through soggy, mud laden trails with streams criss crossing washed out paths.

A couple of things... First, though they were purchased mail order, they fit perfectly, as if they had been designed for my feet. Second, they are on the heavy side for a hiking shoe, but the stiff sole and strong upper are also intended to tolerate summer and fall mountaineering on mixed terrain. Third, the waterproofing is, after a year of use and maybe six hundred miles of outdoor hiking, flawless. Fourth, this shoe's construction is among the best I have ever seen.

I agree with the reviewer who said the support of the shoe is very good. You can walk all day in these shoes. Someone else said there may be quality issues. Really? The soles are worn because I like the shoe so much I wear them regularly, on and off trail. The rand is in perfect condition. The lining is like new. They don't leak. Quality issues? The shoes are amazing, if you would call "amazing" a quality issue.

FYI - If you plan on scuba diving in the Bahamas wearing these, the shoes will likely leak. If you plan on a moon walk with these, your spacesuit may have difficulty maintaining a vacuum. But if you are not planning on scuba diving or walking on a lunar surface with these shoes, you probably can't go wrong.

Poor design, leaks

I'm a long time wearer of Asolo Khumbu (3 pair), so tried these when Khumbu discontinued. Bad idea. The strap-loop design in place of a locking eye guarantees these boots will neither tighten properly, nor allow for adjusting tightness above and below the loop. The lack of the lock also means that the looser sections will transfer into the tighter sections, so the lace you apply changes during a hike much more than other boots. Moving beyond that complaint, they leaked within 3 months. Asolo was nice enough to supply me with a replacement set (very good customer service), and those promptly leaked within a couple months too. Caveat - I hike 1000+ miles a year in the PNW (i.e. wet), so my experience my differ from others. I do like Asolo and their customer service was great, but the design and (apparent) quality issues on these boots let me down.

This is my second pair of asolo boots. I was so happy with first pair. This time I spent a little more money on the Shiraz and glad I did .the support is awesome. I had no break in time. We hunt in steep sometimes rocky terrain where the elk are. Best boot I've ever owned

I need a new pair of hiking boots to replace...

I need a new pair of hiking boots to replace my old Asolo TPS 520 GV. I wanted to try something lighter so I thought these new Asolo GV boots with the schoeller material would be nice. I would appreciate any real world reviews of this. I do mostly 3-4 day back packing trips (twice a year), weekend hikes and 14'ers in Colorado. I don't fit well in narrow boots.

Thanks.

Asolo
