ARVA OVO Axe Shovel

Two life-saving tools in one smart design.

Aluminum from shaft to shovel blade, the Arva OVO Axe Shovel converts from a standard shovel to a hoe-like tool for chopping through hard avalanche debris and quickly moving snow downhill on steep slopes, which is proven to be a faster and more energy efficient way of digging. Simply remove the blade from the shaft and click it securely onto the Y-shaped handle and you're ready to chop. The unique Y-style handle takes stress off your hand so you can dig harder and faster when every second counts, and the handle swaps for left or right-handed users. The serrated blade is designed to blast through hard and icy snow, has several cutouts that allow for the construction of a rescue sled, and collapses down into an easily-packable size so it won't slow you down when you're on the way up.

Move that snow!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This avi shovel is a great addition to anyone's pack. It has a standard shovel mode that's great for digging. Then all you have to do is flip the shaft and plug the handle in to the blade and you have a shovel that is great for moving large amounds of snow.
With the weight of the shovel you will hardly notice it in your pack. The only reason I've given this four stars is because there was a little black logo peice at the end of the handle that repeated fell out. Other than that it's an awesome lightweight versitle shovel.

The Hoe sucks!

Very lightweight. Shovel blade is a good compromise between size and effectiveness. I really wanted to keep it but it took about 10 minutes to get the shovel into hoe mode. Sticks like crazy. Took twice as long to get the shovel blade off once I got it into hoe mode. I'm sure it would loosen up with time or with a little sanding. I shouldn't have to do that. Don't even want to have this around if I really needed it.

I agree. They stick too much. Getting these out of hoe/axe mode took a while, and after holding it and pantomiming shoveling, the handle doesn't seem like it would be very easy to use in shovel mode. I'm sure in some cases, it's a great design, but I think it would take getting used to for those who are more familiar with. standard handle shapes.

    TWO shovels in ONE!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love this shovel because it's lightweight and easy to assemble when you're in a hurry.

I'm 5'6", 135 lb. and I'm not super strong when it pertains to upper body strength. Having the "hoe mode" makes moving a lot of snow a lot easier. Switching from the regular shovel to "hoe mode" is easy & quick if you decide one might be better than the other. The OVO axe shovel also extends to about two feet total and then disassembles easily to take up minimal space in your pack. I would totally recommend this to anyone looking for a reliable, easy to use and versatile shovel.
