Best Rain Shell

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I borrowed this rain shell for a few rainy weeks we were having, to say the least I will be adding this jacket to my closet. The fit is slimming and stylish yet still leaves room to layer up on colder days. Super breathable and lightweight, again by far the best rain jacket I've ever used!

Incredibly light and dry!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

This jacket is an incredible rain shell. It's extremely lightweight but completely waterproof. I have worn this multiple times out in the rain and it's worked great. I love the fit of it personally. It's a little bit longer in the back which I love because it keeps my butt dry and looks cute too. It does get a little bit tapered which I also like, but I ended up sizing up in it so I can wear it in the winter over my down jacket. But it definitely fits true to size with a little room to layer underneath.

Being so lightweight, it is really compactable. It's so easy to throw in my pack if I'm at all unsure of the weather. It doesn't have pit zips (the LT does) which keeps it lightweight and perfect if you're trying to cut ounces in your backpacking set up. I'm not a huge fan of pit zips because I think they can get uncomfortable so I like not having them.

Overall, I love this jacket and think it's perfect for any rainy day. I've mostly worn it in cooler weather, but think it's going to work great in the spring/summer because it's so light.

My Go-To Rain Shell

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

The Zeta SL is a great ultralight rain shell in Arc'teryx's Traverse line designed for hiking and trekking. It is made of Gore-Tex's new 2-layer membrane called Paclite Plus. There is no lining in Paclite Plus, just two layers laminated together to create a really thin, light and packable shell that is completely wind and waterproof. It is also really breathable! Paclite Plus also has a really nice feel against your skin if you're just wearing a t-shirt or tank underneath and isn't super crinkly like previous Paclite shells.

It has a trim fit that I found to be true to size in both Arc'teryx and other rain shells. I'd call it a flattering fit - it has enough room for a light layer like an Atom SL or Delta LT Fleece but isn't boxy. I didn't notice any spots that were tight at all. The center back length is 27.4" and covers my bottom. The arm length is plenty long enough.as you can see in the photo -

Arc'teryx somehow snuck in virtually all features you'd want in a rain shell in a super light 9.3 oz shell. It has an adjustable storm hood, waterproof center zipper, 2 RS slider zippered hand pockets that are strategically placed to wear with a pack or harness, adjustable bottom hem, and velcro wrist tabs.

I've been using this jacket the last three months. I have hiked in it in the Wasatch Mountains in Utah and the humid Coast Mountains in Squamish, BC and even skied in it at Mammoth Mountain in California in late June. I am really happy with its performance and was especially impressed with its durability and breathability. I love this jacket because it keeps me dry in the rain and comfortable and dry inside.
I highly recommend the Zeta SL and am glad to answer any questions about it or any other Arc'teryx product. amcclary@backcountry.com

My Go-To Rain Shell!

Lightweight, Packable Shell

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

This product was given to me by Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. Since I received the Arc'teryx Zeta SL Jacket in the summer I haven’t had a chance to test it out in rainy conditions yet but my initials impressions are good. My favorite thing about the jacket thus far is how lightweight and packable it is. Often when you get a top quality rain shell it has a crunchy feeling to it and doesn’t move well but the Zeta jacket feels nice and doesn’t hinder movement while adventuring. I tested it on a hike that was super windy but still fairly warm and I didn’t overheat too bad wearing it. My only complaint is that there aren’t any pit zips. As someone that usually runs warm pit zips are a must. I realize that adding pit zips would make it slightly less lightweight but I think it would be worth it to have this additional feature. I’m looking forward to testing out the Arc'teryx Zeta SL Jacket this coming fall in some PNW rain.

I am so obsessed with my Zeta SL jacket! I’m new to Washington and this is now a staple in my hiking pack with the unpredictable weather here. It is so light and packs down small. Isn’t too long that it gets in my way if we are scrambling up something, and most importantly keeps me super dry! It’s easy to thrown on over your base layers for a perfect fit. And when the rain stops and I need to pack it away again you can shake it off easily so that it doesn’t soak everything else in your pack when it goes back in! I went with the theanine Zeta SL color and it’s perfect for my style., feels like I blend right in with nature. Lightweight and super breathable for when I’m on the struggle bus sweating up a mountain. This has definitely become my favorite piece of gear to bring along on any adventure.

Best Raincoat EVER

I recently demo'ed this jacket and LOVE it. It has a great tapered fit and is SO waterproof. I put it through the wringer and even went snowboarding in it in the rain for a consistent 4 hours straight and did not get my base layers wet.

light is right!

The Zeta SL from Arc'teryx is the perfect go anywhere, do anything rain shell. The Paclite Plus membrane makes it unbelievably lightweight, while maintaining the durability, breathability, and weather protection we've come to expect from Gore-Tex. The trim fit means it won't look baggy or boxy when you throw it on over your t-shirt during an impromptu rain shower, but with articulated seams, you won't feel restricted when moving around or layering under it, either. This item fits true to size for Arc'teryx; I'm nearly always a small (or size 4) in their gear, and I'm a small in this jacket as well.

BONUS: the colors this year are gorgeous!!! Good luck choosing just one...

Favorite purchase in years!!

I recommend this rain jacket to Everyone!! I have a lot of long, thick, curly, & wavy hair! My biggest complaint is trying to find a rain jacket that can fit while I’m wearing my high Bun or High ponytails! This jacket does the trick!!! I LOVE THIS JACKET!! It covers all of my lower back , my arms & my entire face while wearing my hair up high and tight!! It’s incredibly comfortable & light weight. It compacts to a very minimal amount of space and drys super fast!! I highly recommend this jacket!!!
