Rain and wind won't be a problem.

Witnessing those rare and memorable moments when the storm finally breaks to reveal big, glaciated cirques and jagged alpine peaks means that you're going to have to spend your fair share of time in the rain, so be ready with the Arc'teryx Women's Zeta AR Jacket. With a design that puts an emphasis on versatility, the Zeta AR is a three-layer Gore-Tex shell that will handle everything from rainy day hikes to multi-day treks in wet climates. Adding to the moisture-managing chops of the jacket is Gore's C-Knit backer technology, which makes the fabric softer and more breathable than a standard three-layer Gore-Tex shell. The underarms of the Zeta AR are fitted with two large vents with WaterTight zippers, so you can lose a little heat when the going gets tough, and the low-profile hood offers adequate coverage for those times when the clouds seem less likely to clear and more likely to release several inches of rain during the course of your hike.

  • Versatile hardshell jacket designed for trekking and hiking
  • Gore-Tex membrane delivers waterproof, breathable performance
  • Fully taped seams don't let any moisture creep in
  • Backer technology offers supple, quiet comfort that layers well
  • Underarm vents provide additional breathability on rainy hikes
  • Adjustable hood, hem, and cuffs optimize weather protection
  • Drop back hem lends extra coverage and comfort beneath hipbelt
  • Trim fit keeps the bulk to a minimum so you can focus on the trail

Mom is super happy!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

My mom got this jacket to start skiing again. We decided to outfit her with a shell so that she could layer underneath and not be stuck with a hot insulated jacket when it started to warm up. For shells, it is my belief that gore-tex is a must. The 3-layer membrane keeps out wind chill, water, and yet is breathable. My mom is about 5'7" and thin. She likes to get slim fitting jackets, and this looks radiant on her. The medium worked like a dream. A small would have fit, but would leave less room to layer a puffy under it.

Flattering shell for layering, love it!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I've used the Zeta AR for downhill and backcountry skiing as well as snowshoeing and it performs superbly while having a flattering fit. During a cold snap I put two layers underneath and I stayed nice and was still able to move comfortably. My friends all tell me how nice I look when I wear it. It's a versatile shell that I'll be using three seasons in the mountains.

I know this is a waterproof hiking jacket but would it work well as an outer shell for downhill skiing?

Jay, Yes it will. it is a 3 layer gore jacket, though I would say you are much better off looking at the beta or alpha series for that all around jacket that converts from spring to winter. I personally recommend the sentinel lt or shaska for women.

My go-to technical shell

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

A few essential features on this jacket I love are the length, the pit zips, and the hood. This jacket is long and covers my butt so the rain doesn't get my pants soaked. The pit zips are essential for me as I sweat a lot and very easily when hiking. The hood is amazing because the cut is unique in that you still maintain your peripheral vision when the hood is up and synched up tight. Other rain jackets I have obstruct my peripheral vision, which really annoys me when hiking/climbing! Being from Minnesota, I don't need a lot of layers for winter activities, so I actually use this jacket for all four seasons. I did get a large to ensure I had enough room for layers in the winter and fall, but it's pretty warm for what it is. Truly wind and waterproof. I love the tech features. Overall very pleased! I love this jacket.
