Do-It-All Mountain Shoe
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
The Norvan VT2 shoes are designed for running in vertical, technical terrain and are the perfect all-around mountain shoes. They are great for hiking, trail running, climbing approaches, scrambling, and can even be used for some climbing. Arc'teryx put a ton of detail in these shoes, as they updated the original grippy Norvan VT and re-designed the midsole and outsole to make them more comfortable and improve their overall ride.
These shoes have a ton of features, such as a climbing zone at the forefoot for edging and smearing, a TPU plate underfoot for rock protection, aggressive Vibram Megagrip outsole, breathable mesh upper, a re-enforced medial rand, toe cap for extra abrasion-resistance and durablilty, and my favorite - the integrated tongue pocket to stow your laces and keep them tied. The fit is relatively narrow, volume-wise, but is true to size in length. I love how well the advanced lacing system holds my foot in place!
I tested the VT2s all summer and have worn them everywhere from hiking wet, slick granite in Yosemite and Squamish to rocky scree fields in Big Cottonwood Canyon to dry and dusty trails with stream crossings in American Fork Canyon. I found them to be breathable enough to hike in hot, dry Utah. In addition to them being breathable, they drain quickly! What I was most impressed with was the overall comfort and the performance of the outsole. They had great traction on wet and dry surfaces but the lugs were low profile enough to perform great on both hard and soft surfaces.
If you are looking for a do-it-all mountain shoe that will give you a smooth, comfortable ride on virtually any surface, I highly recommend you give the Norvan VT2s a try. If you have any questions about these shoes or any other Arc'teryx product, feel free to reach out to me at email@example.com.
