Why We Like The Norvan VT 2 Trail Running Shoe

Designed to tackle steep vert, rain-soaked talus fields, and exposed ridgelines, the Arc'teryx Norvan VT 2 Trail Running Shoe features a modest yet precise construction that helps us effortlessly cruise through our trail running pursuits. Based on customer feedback, Arc'teryx made some updates to the original Norvan VT for better heel-to-toe ride and overall comfort so you can run longer and more efficiently.

For starters, the inner bootie was eliminated to help keep your feet cooler when you're tackling strenuous ascents. Additionally, the EVA midsole was updated for a more responsive and shock absorbing ride to keep you comfortable through the miles. Finally, the Norvan VT2 features a more conventional lacing system with added eyelets to give a more precise fit. Underfoot you'll still find the same Vibram MegaGrip outsole that provides you with serious traction on wet, dry, or loose terrain.

  • Comfortable, durable trail running shoe for exploring wild places
  • 8mm drop offers comfortable platform for midfoot and heel strikers
  • Breathable mesh uppers help keep your feet comfortable as you run
  • Synthetic toe cap guards against debris you find along the trail
  • 4mm OrthoLite insoles provide additional cushioning for comfort
  • EVA midsoles are durable and absorb shock for logging many miles
  • Vibram soles deliver exceptional traction on wet and try terrain
  • Arc'teryx utilizes a less is more approach with its designs

I didn't want to believe the negative reviews. I love Arcteryx. Love the style and comfort of these shoes...... but. Less than 24 hours of delivery and one 8 hour shift as a hotel bellman and the side split open. I simply needed good looking straight black shoes for work, not running on mountains. I'm severely disappointed.

I'm a vermonter and spend most days outside. Figured I'd spend some extra money to get something that would last. They lasted about 4 months before all sides blew out (see photo).

I won't be buying another arcteryx product. I'm not angry just disappointed.

go by the EUR size. A US size 7 fits more like a US size 8...

Agree with everything about this being a great shoe, although sizing is off. I’m a US men’s 8. I usually wear la sportiva running shoes EU 41, and climbing shoes EU 40.5 (tight fit). I went a full size down for these. US men’s 7 / EU 40. I read this same sizing recommendation on another review elsewhere and it was spot on. Go full size down.

Do-It-All Mountain Shoe

The Norvan VT2 shoes are designed for running in vertical, technical terrain and are the perfect all-around mountain shoes. They are great for hiking, trail running, climbing approaches, scrambling, and can even be used for some climbing. Arc'teryx put a ton of detail in these shoes, as they updated the original grippy Norvan VT and re-designed the midsole and outsole to make them more comfortable and improve their overall ride.

These shoes have a ton of features, such as a climbing zone at the forefoot for edging and smearing, a TPU plate underfoot for rock protection, aggressive Vibram Megagrip outsole, breathable mesh upper, a re-enforced medial rand, toe cap for extra abrasion-resistance and durablilty, and my favorite - the integrated tongue pocket to stow your laces and keep them tied. The fit is relatively narrow, volume-wise, but is true to size in length. I love how well the advanced lacing system holds my foot in place!

I tested the VT2s all summer and have worn them everywhere from hiking wet, slick granite in Yosemite and Squamish to rocky scree fields in Big Cottonwood Canyon to dry and dusty trails with stream crossings in American Fork Canyon. I found them to be breathable enough to hike in hot, dry Utah. In addition to them being breathable, they drain quickly! What I was most impressed with was the overall comfort and the performance of the outsole. They had great traction on wet and dry surfaces but the lugs were low profile enough to perform great on both hard and soft surfaces.

If you are looking for a do-it-all mountain shoe that will give you a smooth, comfortable ride on virtually any surface, I highly recommend you give the Norvan VT2s a try. If you have any questions about these shoes or any other Arc'teryx product, feel free to reach out to me at

Lightweight Trail Crushers

I would like to first preface that I am by no means a trail runner. That being said if I were I think these would slot nicely into any trail runners quiver. I picked up these shoes really looking for a lighter weight and more breathable option for climbing approaches. I will say these slot in really well into my climbing quiver. They are really exactly what I was looking for, lightweight, breathable, supportive and all still with really tacky rubber. They have even worked in a variety of conditions from the dry desert climate here in Utah all the way to the wet coastal environment of Squamish. The rubber toe rand is also really nice to help prevent bashing your toes in loose scree fields. The fit is quite nice as well. Through the heel and mid foot the shoe is relatively narrow and as you get into the toe box they flare just a bit to give your toes just enough wiggle room. I typically wear a 46 in most shoes and with these guys i fit really well into the US 11.

Best trail/scramble shoe on the market!

This shoe is so nice. slightly wider last in the foot than my previous arc'teryx shoes so they provide a little more comfort. Stable, awesome grip, great quality and 100% worth the $.
Breathable, and such a sleek look. Already gotten many compliments on them! I say they fit true to size, but if you have a really skinny foot then maybe go down a half size.
