Genetic properties are no joke, especially when it comes to an alpinism-rich heritage. So it's no surprise that the designers over at Arc'teryx took the company's climbing-specific DNA and ran with it to create the Men's Norvan VT Trail Running Shoe. Designed to tackle steep vert, rain-soaked talus fields, and exposed ridgelines, the Norvan features a modest, yet precise, construction that effortlessly cruises through trail running pursuits that are more of a scramble than a jaunt on smooth singletrack.
The most notable feature on the Norvan is the Adjustable 360 Support System—this design offers you the best of a trail runner and approach shoe by allowing you to switch from climb to run mode in minimal time. When running, simply tie the laces and adjust the drawcord to your preference. To climb, cinch the drawcord down as snugly as you can and carry on with your endeavor. A fixed internal stretch bootie protects your foot from trail debris, and it enables the Norvan to become amphibious as you cruise through streams or puddles. The beauty of this internal bootie is that it's extremely quick-drying and comfortable, so you can wear it with or without socks. The Norvan is also equipped with a Vibram MegaGrip outsole that consists of Idrogrip at the forefoot to promote unimpeded grip in the climbing zone, and the 3.5mm lugs in the rear ensure serious traction on wet, dry, or loose terrain.

A bit too big while comparing it .......
- Size Bought: US9.5
A bit too big while comparing it with my other brand trail running shoes such as La Sportiva, Scott, Salomon, Scarpa.., Have used for 2 courses (app. 50 KM in total). Light weight, comfortable and good traction. But to slightly increase the thickness of Sole would make it perfect to my running.
Light and comfortable
- Fit: Runs large
Lightweight and good traction. Runs a little large so I bought a half size smaller than I usually wear and it fits snug. A little narrow for wider feet but once they stretch a little they fit fine.

Fit - The Norvan VT are perfect if you need a technical trail runner that borders an approach shoe. The traction on all terrain is fantastic (really, better than any trail runner I've used before). That being said, I would stick to 1-3hrs moving time in them. For longer runs I would want something lighter.
Comfort - They have a great balance of softness, flex and stability, to take on the steepest and roughest terrain. The lacing is unique in that you can "lock-down" the laces before you begin steep descents. It really helps prevent any movement and gives you that extra sense of security for bombing downhill. Use the Norvan when you're in the mountains, not around your city park.
Sizing - I would go down 1/2 size from your street shoe. I went my normal size and find myself kicking rocks more often on my runs and wanting a bit more "snugness" on the fit.
