Why We Like The Aerios FL GTX Hiking Shoe

When designing the Aerios FL GTX Hiking Shoe, Arc'teryx pulled inspiration from long-distance trail running shoes to create a hiker that delivers comfort, confidence, and support when we're out on long, fast and light hikes across varied terrain. The Aerios features a durable Cordura mesh upper to withstand trail abuse and GORE Invisible Fit technology to fend off moisture from stream crossings and muddy trails. This GORE Invisible Fit technology is comfortable, lightweight, and waterproof ensuring you'll barely notice it as you hike. Agility, confidence, and stability come from the TPU shank in the midsole and the durable Vibram MegaGrip soles that keep you hiking fast and light on shifting terrain in any conditions.

  • Fast and light shoe for long-distance day hikes on technical trails
  • Durable Cordura mesh uppers withstand the abrasions of fast miles
  • GORE Invisible Fit tech blocks moisture and provides a flexible fit
  • 4mm OrthoLite molded insert offers comfort throughout long hikes
  • TPU shank increases stability and underfoot confidence on the trail
  • Layered spring sole system delivers a buoyant ride for efficiency
  • Durable Vibram MegaGrip soles reliably grip on wet and dry terrain
  • Arc'teryx approaches its designs with a less is more mentality

Near Perfection

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 11

These are the most versatile shoes I've ever owned and would recommend these to just about anyone. They are rugged enough to take on demanding trails, yet sophisticated and sleek enough to wear around town and even at the office. They really are one of the best looking shoes out there. I tend to wear a lot of Earth tones so I got mine in the Cinder/Bushwack color scheme and they look great (think slate-gray on a dark olive-green sole). I also love the protection from the reinforced toe-cap. You could kick a slab of granite in these and still be on your merry way. These shoes also provide excellent support. They leave you feeling sure footed and ready to tackle whatever obstacle is in your way.

Things to consider:
I must say I have seen some commenters mention that these shoes do run a bit narrow and this is true. However, for people with average-to-narrower feet these will fit like a glove. They feel like they were molded around my feet. Also, at $184 out-the-door, these shoes don't come cheap. Alas, as the old adage goes "you get what you pay for" and that certainly applies here. Finally, if there's any critique of the actual shoe that I could offer, it would be that the cushioning in the heel could be a tad bit softer (something you only notice when being on your feet for several miles at a time).

i hike at least 200 miles a month. these shoes are really comfortable, but i was pretty disappointed that they got a small tear in the same spot identical on both shoes only after 3 months of use. obviously this is due to a defect and not due to normal wear and tear.
overall they are great shoes and super comfortable.
true to size.

Great shoe

  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 9

I have been looking for a new waterproof shoe since my last ones blew out after 5 years. I bought these in a size 9 in the cinder/bushwack color. I love the color. The 9 felt a bit big so i ordered a. 8.5 to see of they fit any better. My toes seemed to stop at the same spot as the 9s but were very tight. It seems as if the sizing is off for this brand. I chose to stick with the 9s and run them for a while to test them out.

Looks great - bit larger than expected

Recent purchase. Wore once and it feels slightly bigger than the usual sneaker size I wear. Will need to sock up to keep it from falling off.

Nice shoe.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 10.5

Have only been out a few times on trails that had a lot of rocks and roots. Felt sure footed but had to adjust the lacing a few times on each hike to get comfortable. I ordered a half size larger then normal and that worked well.

Strange toebox, otherwise great

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: US 11.0

For quick reference: I'm a size US 11.0 in these, Nike, Adidas, and Salomon. I wanted to love these shoes but ultimately returned them. I'm a big fan of Arc'teryx but something was just off for me in regards to the toebox when trying these on for the first time. When I did a lunge or put much of any stress on the toebox I could feel the seam at the base of the tongue slightly push into my toes. Would this break in over time? Maybe. It certainly wasn't a huge annoyance and wasn't painful, just kind of odd. Maybe this is simply due to the internal lacing. Otherwise, they fit my feet great, probably better than any other hiking shoe I've owned to tried on. They also have a Vibram MegaGrip sole which felt very sticky and grippy. I love the Vibram soles on my Red Wing Iron Rangers so I'm sure they're great here as well. Try these, they could very well check all your boxes but they just fell short for me

Lookout Iceland

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 9.5

I got these for my honeymoon to Iceland. They are really comfortable, and keep my feet dry. I wear a 9.5 in other shoes and the 9.5 fits perfectly. I am really happy with the out of box comfort, I don't feel like they need to be "broken in". I also plan on trail running in these after I have taken them to Iceland!

stable, durable, and fast.
