A shoe as specialized as the rest of your gear.

As you might expect, the Arc'teryx Men's Acrux SL Approach Shoe features a relatively simple design that delivers the performance needed to withstand heavy use in abrasive mountain environments. Ridiculously light, the Acrux SL weighs a feathery ten ounces per shoe, making it the ideal approach shoe when every ounce counts. Like all Arc'teryx footwear, the Acrux SL has an unconventional construction that consists of a seamless, water-resistant upper, abrasion-resistant overlays, and an integrated rubber toe cap to keep the shoe intact when faced with rocky ridges, boulder-strewn approaches, and trails littered with roots and downed logs. The Acrux also has an air permeable liner that makes the shoe more suitable for hot and dry mid-summer objectives, so you can splash through puddles and conquer hot and dusty trails with confidence.

  • Superlight approach shoe built for hikers who prefer a nimble stride
  • Seamless, water-resistant upper with mesh and strengthened paneling
  • Air permeable liner begins to breathe the moment you put the shoe on
  • Injected EVA offers long-lasting cushioning
  • Vibram Light Approach sole with Megagrip rubber compound

Oh My Goodness!!!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 9.5

These are one of the most comfortable shoes I have. Love love love them. They are very light weight… Size runs a bit small. So I suggest buying half /full size up. I normally wear a size 8.5-9, but from reading other reviews. I brought 9 1/2 and they fit perfectly.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review! Glad they've been working out well for you!

Run Very Small!!!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Size 11

I just ordered these shoes and they run very small. I'm normally use 10.5mens and have a previous model of this shoe sized 11 and fits fine.

I ordered size 11 and they no where close to a regular sized 11 shoe - sole to sole there is at lest 1 inch difference.

A great shoe until you lace it

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Size Bought: 10.5

Great fit, confy and narrow. A great thread pattern to climb anything. The problem is that if one tightens the laces not too much but just normally, the fabric just tears up. I had one pair returned to Arcteryx, and the replacement pair showed the same issue. I have the Acrrux GTX version ( in two colors) and never had such a problem. Just a poor lacing design. Arcteryx usually rarely misses the mark on their material but this time around a real disaster. Go for the GTX version which is tough as hell, rather than the slimsy SL version

Great feel & look..tearing after 2 weeks

These shoes look and feel amazing! I purchased these as my work shoes for my job as a nurse. After 2 shifts on tile floors and a few days of at home wear, I noticed some pulling and stressing of the fabric where the outermost mesh bends with the ball of the foot. After just over two weeks, it had developed into a 1 inch aneurism of the fabric that got worse each time I wore them. I was pretty bummed because I noticed a serious drop in my back pain and I loved the look. Thankfully, Backcountry was awesome about taking them back. I now have the Arc’teryx Arakys approach shoe. I’m optimistic that I won’t have the same problem.

The best approach shoe for narrow feet

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 43-10

These shoes are simply perfect. Great tight fit, wonderful grip, waterproof and highly confortable. This is my third pair of these shoes, which I have in red as well as orange:) . Let`s say that when one finds a great shoe it is worth having more than one of such. I read people complainig about the tight fit. Well, yes, it is a narrow shoe but who buys a shoe without having tried them, well not me. If these individuals would have gone to Arcteryx and tried one, they would have figured our that it is a tight fit. Don`t blame the shoe, just blame yourself :)))). Size wise, please note that it runs true to size for city use and maybe one half size smaller if used for hiking. Just do your homeworks first... Buying a tent without having tried it might ok ... Shoes or boots not at all

    Everything You Need!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

It took me a while to break them in, and I was a little premature on actually hiking in them and ended up with some blisters . Once they broke in however, they have instantly become my favorite shoe. Great for casual wear and even better for putting your feet into after a long/hard climb. They make for great belay shoes with comfort, stability, and traction.
They do run a little hot, but with a great moisture wicking breathable sock you can counteract that pretty easily.

I am a size 9.5 and bought the 9.5. fit snug, but I wouldn't want it any other way.

Give me a call if you have any sizing concerns or functionality questions.

    Just okay

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 11

They fit awfull snug, and I am usually fine in an 11 in anyother shoe. Might want to size up.

They don't breath all that well except at the sides. Easy to get wet feet.

I don't know, not that impressed. Sure they are light.

    Great Every Day Shoes

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

They take a bit to break in but make great every day shoes in addition to being great trail hikers. I own two pairs of Arc'teryx shoes now and have been surprised how well they have executed on not just building a great shoe but designing a great functional shoe with a look and set of colors that creates a great brand of shoes.

    love these shoes

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've had a few different approach shoes from other manufacturers...all pretty decent. However these fit like a glove, are super light and comfortable, and most importantly for me they appear to be super durable though I have only used them for part of one season so far. These are my go to approach shoes now.

The best approach shoes out there in my opinion.

        So Far, So Best

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

So far these are about the best approach shoes I have ever owned. The traction is downright amazing. What's more, though, is that the Acrux SL is actually also quite comfortable to wear. The seamless uppers breathe well yet manage to keep sand and debris out. These shoes were also tough enough to make it through a slot canyon unscathed. The pic is of these shoes at the bottom of Angel Slot, near Hanksvillle, UT. Granted I did try to take it easy on the shoes whenever possible, but still, impressively tough nonetheless.

Having used Scarpa and LaSportiva approach shoes for years, I was hoping to find something a bit lighter and more packable for multi-pitch walk-offs. The Acrux SL seems to be perfect.

After two weeks of climbing at City of Rocks and Red Rocks, I am extremely happy with my purchase. The shoes are very light, but still supportive enough for longer approaches and descents over rough terrain. I found them to be much more comfortable and cooler than the other approach shoes I've had, and had no issues with the crease on top that has been a concern for some. The toe box is a bit roomier than Scarpa or LaSportiva making for happier feet on the longer descents. And maybe best of all, they take less room (and less weight) in the backpack or clipped to a harness. Scrambling /climbing seemed on par with other shoes I've had. Durability, if two weeks of use count for anything, seemed fine and the shoes appear to be very well made.

Great shoes- just what I was looking for.

I have always worn a 46 in La Sportiva shoes. Based upon owning both brands, what do you think I should go with in the Arc'teryx?

With this fine pair of footwear you can strut upon wet boulders and icy sidewalks with the confidence of a king. These kicks are both easy on the eyes AND built for some quality romping . I considered the Acrux FL at first, but was looking for a shoe that I can also wear at work and around town. Overall the Acrux SL feels sturdy yet comfortable. I went half a size up and it fits perfectly with either some summer hiking socks or au naturel. They were a tad stiff at first, but broke in quickly. 10/10, 100% satisfied, two thumbs up, would recommend.

        High Quality Approach Shoes

Just because this is Arc'teryx' lowest price approach shoe doesn't mean they overlooked any details. The quality is definitely there. Arc'teryx puts a lot of attention to detail into both the design and manufacturing of their shoes and it shows.
In the past I've had success ordering whatever size matched up with a EU 44. However, I ordered an 11 in these and it seems they should work okay with lightweight socks. Even then, they're a bit tight.
