Timp Trail Running Shoe

If you live to clobber talus fields, steep trails, and tricky descents, yet still desire a shoe that's agile and cushioned, look no further than the Altra Women's Timp Trail Running Shoe. Falling between Altra's Lone Peak and Olympus (in terms of cushion and tread), the Timp is a do-everything, go-anywhere king of trail running shoe. In keeping with Altra's original design, the Timp has a 0mm drop, neutral platform, and wide last, which allows your foot to splay and encourages a natural, comfortable stride.

However, to differentiate itself from the Lone Peak and Olympus, the Timp is endowed with a few distinguishable details. To start, the Timp features a smoother mesh for light, breathable comfort, as well as TPU overlays and a reinforced toe and heel cap for added protection and torsional structure. Meanwhile, the dual-density midsole (which is 4mm more than the Lone Peak and 7mm shorter than the Olympus) is equipped with a traditional EVA foam and A-Bound component. In turn, this foam combination provides unencumbered energy return, shock attenuation, and comfort underfoot. The GaiterTrap TM tech now features a four-point attachment system to maintain a secure fit, and the rugged TrailClaw and DuraTread outsole chews up and spits out varied terrain like the boss that it is.

  • Rugged, go-anywhere shoe for crushing trails
  • Mesh upper features reflective details
  • Asymmetrical lace maintains a pressure-free fit
  • Zero-drop and neutral support enhance natural stride
  • EVA and A-Bound midsole attenuates impacts
  • Hardy outsole rips and grips all terrain

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Gift for a friend who swears by these as her go to trail running shoes. Has ordered multiple pairs and raves about the support, durability and breathability. Uses to run primarily in the Wasatch.

It’s about comfort

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I have picked 5 pairs of Altra shoes for my Mom who had both knees replaced a year ago, she says Altras are the only shoes that make her knees and feet fee good. She says she wants to own one of each style of altras.

The Perfect Trailrunner

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Up until a year ago, I'd never tried Altras. Now I don't know how I ever got by without them! I've tried and loved the Torin IQ and the Lone Peaks, but the Timps are my favorite. They are actually a sort of hybrid between the two. They have the fit and extreme comfort of the Torins, but the lugs to handle any trail like the Lone Peak. I love the Lone Peak, but feel it had too much room inside for my low volume foot. The Timps fit my foot perfect and are the most comfortable pair of running shoes I've ever worn! The fit is true to size.
I don't trail run too much, but I have hiked in the Timps and they performed great by gripping rocks really well, keeping my foot secured in place, breathing really well, and making my legs and feet feel fresh with every step.
I would wear these shoes every day if I could and definitely recommend them!

Best Trail Shoes

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love these shoes- they are my favorite trail shoes by far. I used to wear the Olympus, but prefer the Timps because they are a little less clunky and have better traction. I wore these last fall for a 100 miler and they held up great, and I didn't get any blisters or hot spots. I plan to use these again this summer for all my long distance adventures!

Impressed so far!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've only just begun to run in the Altra Timps, and I am sold.
The width and comfort of the toe-box allows my feet to move more naturally, and flex and needed to cover trail miles. The asymmetric lacing system feels really solid, without creating pressure points.

I was apprehensive about the roominess of the toebox for descending, but my fears were unwarranted: my feet stay in place and do not slide forward.

Overall, a great cushioned trail runner, for covering all the miles in all the elements.

All time favorite trail shoe!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 7.5

From the moment I took these out of the box they have been by far the most comfortable trail shoe I've ever had. The level of cushioning is perfect for me, not too stacky and not too minimal. Great for long and short runs. I've put close to 200 miles on them over the summer and have not had a single issue with construction or durability. I love the asymmetrical lacing system and the highly reflective pattern under mesh is perfect for night runs. Highly recommend this shoe!!

Well Done Altra

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I was about to give up on Altra until I found the Timps! Not as sloppy as the Lone Peaks and not as chunky as the Olympus. Same roomy toe box but I like that these shoes have a little more structure to them. Super comfortable right out of the box. I'm still not sure if zero drop is right for me but I really like having these shoes in my arsenal. Please don't hesitate to call or email me with questions or just to talk about running.

Well Done Altra

Amazing Fit and Comfy

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 7

I pronate and I've always been told that I need arch support, but it always hurts my feet. Turns out, having flat shoes is not so damaging to your feet as people say. These shoes are flat, but there is a wider toe box so your toes don't get squished. These are super comfy and perfect for trail running because of the extra cushion on the bottom. Super grippy and would be perfect for going up Timp. I would recommend these shoes or any other Altra shoes.
