A real trail crusher.

Give those soul-crushing, ego-busting trails a run for their money with the Altra Men's Timp Trail Running Shoe. The Timp is designed to fall between Altra's Lone Peak and Olympus in terms of cushioning and tread, and it features a comfort-forward design that lends itself as a supportive compatriot for 50k runs. Though, the Timp does stay in-line with Altra's original design with a 0mm drop.

Though, to differentiate itself from the Lone Peak and Olympus, the Timp features a smooth mesh upper, complete with a breathable construction and TPU overlays. The dual-density midsole, which is 4mm more lofty than the Lone Peak and 7mm shorter than the Olympus, is equipped with a traditional EVA foam and A-Bound component. In turn, this foam combination provides unencumbered energy return, shock attenuation, and comfort underfoot. The GaiterTrap TM tech now features a four-point attachment system to maintain a secure fit, and the rugged TrailClaw and DuraTread outsole crushes varied terrain.

  • Crush trails with this running shoe
  • Mesh upper features reflective details
  • Asymmetrical lace maintains a pressure-free fit
  • 0mm drop and neutral support enhance natural stride
  • EVA and A-Bound midsole attenuates impact
  • Hardy outsole rips and grips all terrain

squishy in a good way

I'm a big Altra fan - of the fit, and the zero drop. These are my first pair of mid/max cushion shoes, and they have been amazing so far. Cycling is my main sport and running has always been a little challenging - the extra give these have make it much easier on my knees when running on flat ground (uphill and downhill have always been oddly fine.) Two thumbs up for these!

Go to shoes for all outings.

    • Fit: True to size

Whether going to the store or on a hike, these have become my go to shoe. Unless backpacking, these shoes are a fantastically comfortable shoe for all activities. The wide toe box and the cushioning are amazing features. Additionally, the lateral and rear stability seem to be well engineered to provide support in all terrain.

    Happy happy happy

I do some pretty rugged trails. The wide toe box and breathability of these has noticeable decreased the burning toes during fast downhill runs. I worry about blistering in these less as well. They fit true to size and are very comfortable. These are great for the average trail but I do prefer a thicker sole for the steeper, rocky trails.

    Great comfort, weak durability

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Loved the wide toe box and zero drop on this, my first pair of Altras. However, they wore out surprisingly quick: after 150 miles. When the first rip came in the sides of the shoes, I should have stopped, but I kept running on them, and then last week the rip turned into a full-blown gash with half my foot hanging out the side of the shoe while on a trail run up Cardiff. So I'm going to look for an Altra with a more durable upper.

Check out the superior or wait about two weeks and try the new lone peak. Both have a much more durable upper. Rumor has it altra is releasing the timp 1.5 early this winter which fixes the durability issues!

    Great Trail Shoes

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought these for my boyfriend - it's his third pair of Timp's. He they make a great mid to ultra distance shoe. The toe box is super roomy and comfortable. This is great for longer more causal runs, but it is not a shoe for super aggressive fast technical running. They might be a little loose if you are not used to the Altra fit, but if you are looking for a mid to higher cushion shoes they are great for what they were made for.

    Great feel, horrible durability

The Timp's have been one of my favorite trail shoes ever from a pure running perspective. Love the cushion. Love the lacing and fit. They could be a bit lighter, but they're not too bad. The durability has been really poor though. I've had two pairs and have blown through the sides of both in under 200 miles. Don't think I can justify a third, even for a race shoe. Hope they fix it in the next iteration.

      Temps are rad

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: True to size

Best trail running shoe I’ve had. I bought these as a gift for my dad
After him seeing mine he really wanted a pair.
He has not worn them yet so I don’t have any of his feedback yet.

      Great walking shoes

Picked these up to be the camp and walking shoes for a recent trip and they were amazingly comfortable. Wore for long days right out of the box with no issues.

      Ultimate Altra

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: 11

After my first run in these shoes I love them! I've previously owned two pairs of Altra's Superiors and loved the lightweight nimble feel they provided, but did not like how quickly they wore out. After a few long distance races I was looking to replace them. The Timp has a similar nimble feel, but more cushion and a more durable feel for added support over ultras and hopefully will be longer lasting. In the Superiors I always wore a size 11.5, but the 11.5 in the Timp was too big. I sized a half size down to an 11 and it is the perfect fit.

      Altra cool

this was my 4th pair of Altra shoes, the new Temp's
they have the grip of the Kings. but have a bigger sole.
they are very Squishy on your feet.
I am really digging the new reflective pattern on these shoes.
