Altra King MT Trail Running Shoe - Women's
AltraKing MT Trail Running Shoe - Women's

Queen Of The Mountain.

Despite the ego-bruising and relentlessly tenacious climate of mountain running, you consider such varied and unforgiving terrain your home-away-from-home. And, thanks to the Altra Women's King MT Trail Running Shoe, you're able to navigate not only in confidence, but with some semblance of comfort. Built specifically for mountain running, the King MT features a Vibram MegaGrip outsole, complete with 6mm lugs that are ready to rip, grip, break, and provide medial support in all sorts of conditions (though, especially the untrekked kind). An Altra Ego midsole attenuates shock and provides an enhanced, energetic feel underfoot to prevent foot fatigue and promote swift transitions that keep you cruising, rather than falling flat. Meanwhile, a StoneGuard insert defends your foot from otherwise debilitating trail-side obstacles, without infringing your mobility. And in keeping with Altra's mission statement, the King MT features a Zero Drop construction, encouraging a natural stride, and the FootShape toe box allows your toes to splay and move with ease.

Soles for the vertical runner

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I was anxiously waiting for these shoes to drop, and I am NOT disappointed! I went for half a size up since I do a ton of vertical running and need the extra toe space especially for my descents. At first I was skeptical because these shoes really do feel like slippers compared to lots of other shoes. With a zero drop, roomy toe box, and breathable meshy upper, I thought there's no way that these puppies would hold up, so naturally I took them for a run up Mount Olympus here in Utah. This mountain consists of roughly a 4,000 climb through steep and rocky terrain with a snow choked gully toward the top in the springtime. Normally I would have worn or at least brought cleats with me for the snowfield, but I did it without and honestly did not notice a different. The aggressively sharp-toothed tread pattern bites into snow so incredibly well that there's no need for adding the extra weight of spikes to your feet or your pack. Add that tread pattern with the Vibram sole, and you've got one of the grippiest soles on the market in steep loose rocks and dirt, and it holds on slippery rocks in river crossings... let's not forget how quickly these shoes dry out either! Also.. carbon fiber stone guard? This is kinda my dream shoe...
