Why We Like The Ibex 3 Tent

Backpacking trips are a lot easier when we hike up with the light, ventilated Alps Mountaineering Ibex 3 Tent in our pack. Alps built the walls out of no-see-um mesh for maximum ventilation and airflow, and the floor and fly out of PU-coated polyester taffeta for protection against the elements. Two doors and vestibules give us and our backpacking buddies plenty of personal space, while aluminum poles ensure a lot of head room, as well as a quick, simple setup.

Great value!

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is a great tent for the price point with a quick and easy setup. The bottom is thick enough I didn’t feel the need for a footprint and it slept three (women) cozily, but comfortably. Sufficient venting without being too chilly. The zippers on the rain fly are a bit finicky, but certainly not a dealbreaker. Definitely recommend!

Love this tent!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

The first time I used this tent was not an ideal situation. It was night, on a mountain trail and I hadn’t set up even once prior. However, set up in the middle of the night with just a headlight while exhausted was incredibly easy! I mean incredibly easy. My 10yr could have done it without directing him; easy! The weight for backpacking was perfect. I’m sure you can find a lighter one but for the $$ and under 3lbs this was perfect. I found it roomy, I’m only 5’3 and it comfortably fit myself, dog (90lb), pack, and unpacked gear. On a separate trip, it was me, my son, dog and our gear in the tent and it was comfortable, but a another adult would have made it really snug (2 adults, 1 child, and a lg breed dog w packs put in the vestibule would fine). On my first trip I injured my back and had to set up camp on the trail which was at an incline over a lot of rocks for 2 days. There’s no footprint that comes w it, but on the Rocky Mountain terrain w lg dog claws it help up fine.. It rained and I had no issues with water seeping in. Due to my back injury I had to temporarily abandon my tent for 4 days. During that time there were major thunderstorms. When I was well enough to go back and pack it in, it was still standing in perfect shape and zero water inside (which surprised me given the incline and days of downpours). I loved this tent and would gladly buy again. I did purchase a footprint for it later, but only because I want to extend the longevity of the tent as much as possible, not because I’m worried the bottom won’t hold up under tough conditions.

Doesn’t come with a footp

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This thing is awesome! Camped the eastern sierra’s worked great. I found a few design flaws; weird vents on rain fly and no footprint included. This tent is quality! Rain fly is water tight unless your girlfriend leaves it open! This tent is also fast drying unlike my backpack with all my clothes… All in all I love and would recommend this tent!

Pretty impressive design

Familiarity:

Pros: roomy and light enough, great rain fly. Cons: poles are a bit flimsy for a 3 season tent. Had it in the rain and some wind and worked out great. My Ghost Sky survived in a foot of snow but elastic on poles has degraded and I wanted a bigger tent. This works well with well placed doors. Vents on fly help a lot.

great

This tent is great, plenty of room for two people and a 70lb lab. Easy set up and take down. The interior is almost all mesh so ventilation is great, but it can get a bit cold during shoulder season. It wouldn't be my choice for a dedicated backpacking tent but as a car camping/campsite tent it's hard to beat for the price.

Very easy to put up. Love that you can sleep under the stars with this. Not easy to put everything back into the bag, but definitely doable.

Not what I was expecting

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

It?s pretty bulky and heavy. Overly complicated design and set up. Might be good for regular camping but just kinda seems like a nightmare for backpacking.
