Why We Like The Ibex 2 Tent

The lightweight Alps Mountaineering Ibex 2 Tent keeps you light on your feet so you can backpack from spring to fall comfortably. Alps Mountaineering built the walls out of no-see-um mesh for maximum ventilation and airflow, and the floor and fly out of PU-coated polyester taffeta for abrasion resistance and water resistance. Two doors and two vestibules give you and your backpacking buddy plenty of personal space, and aluminum poles ensure a quick and simple setup. There are mesh storage pockets inside the tent for smaller items like your keys and headlamps. Alps Mountaineering also added stakes, guy lines, and repair swatches for your convenience.

Excellent Value Summer Packing Tent

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I believe Alps previously called this model the Zephyr. It's relatively light and offers lots of features for the price. Since everything above the bathtub is mesh, this is more of a summer tent than a full 3-season offering. So if you are on a budget but need something to pack for that backcountry hike during summer, this might be the tent for you.

Great Tent For a Low Cost

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This tent is a really nice budget backpacking tent. Me and my daughter were able to sleep in this tent pretty comfortability. The wind protection is a little unsettling. The inner wall is mesh, and the rain fly does not reach all the way to the ground. I was able to stay warm during my early summer backpacking trip that got down to 35 degrees at night, but I wouldn't feel comfortable taking this on nights that will get colder than 30 degrees. I did have an issue with water puddling on the top when I initially set it up in my backyard. I was able to fix it by tightening the guy wires and tent stakes. Overall it is a pretty good tent.

Great tent but not really 3 season

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

First this is a great tent. It actually does fit 2 people (yes, you do have to like each other) most of gear would be in the vestibules. With the guy lines out, the toes and heads of the sleeping bags did not get wet. We didn't get any condensation. Lighter weight than many without a huge price tag. The light weight is due to the tent being almost entirely mesh. Unfortunately all that mesh means it has almost no wind protection. The rainfly goes close to the ground but the tent wall is only a couple inches so no wind protection there. It's basically a mosquito net with a tarp. Don't get me wrong it's great, but only summer, maybe late spring, early fall.
