Come in out of the rain.
Get out and enjoy the great outdoors this summer with the Somerset 4 Tent from Alps Mountaineering. The floor is given a waterproof treatment that helps to keep everything dry, while the waterproof polyester fly attaches with waterproof fly buckles to keep you dry during a downpour. The fiberglass poles are lightweight and use steel uprights for extra strength, which is great when gale-force winds decide to rip through camp. The hub pole design and pole clips make setup extremely easy, and the included steel stakes hold it all down once things are complete. A vestibule awning over the front door and a large back window give you a great place to store gear out of the elements.

- Q & A
I ordered the tent from Backcountry on Sunday. It showed up Wednesday. Wednesday evening Backcountry rep Jason called to make sure I was satisfied with the way things went. I was very pleased and even more pleased that Jason cared enough to call. I have never ordered anything online where the vendor followed up with personal contact. Friday afternoon I reluctantly decided to set it up in my yard to check it out. I say reluctantly because I am simply not good at assembling things. Add to that, I recently had total shoulder replacement surgery and am limited in range of motion. I unpackaged the tent and made sure everything was there. I read and followed each simple step on the instruction card that is sewn into the storage bag. 10 minutes later I had the tent completely assembled. I was baffled at how ridiculously simple it was. I was worried that getting the rain fly over the top would be a challenge with my shoulder problem. I simply balled up one end, tossed it over the tent and walked the clips out and down. It could not have been easier. The tent appears to be well constructed. It has a double thickness floor. Most tents I shopped did not . The zippers worked perfectly. It's easy to get the rain flaps caught up in tent zippers from what I read in other reviews. If you'll lead the zipper with a spare finger, you won't have that problem. OK, so set-up was simple, how about break down? It was even faster. And get this. It all went back into the bag easily. That's another criticism I have read in reviews. People can't get the tents back into the storage bags. This one went in without a hitch. I am retired Coast Guard sailor with a bum, sore shoulder. Not one swear word was uttered in the entire process. Nice job Alps Mountaineering. I like simple things and this could not have been simpler. The tent is very roomy and airy. Without the fly the mesh top will make for great star gazing this summer in the Colorado Rockies. I'll try to post a follow up once I have used it. Backcountry has won me over with this transaction.
