    Getaway Chair

The ALPS Mountaineering Getaway Chair does everything but massage your feet after a day on the coastal trails. You'll have to bribe members of your party to do that. Maybe even let them have turns sitting in your chair for a minute.

    • Powder coated steel frame is sturdy enough for folks up to 300 lbs.
    • Chair folds to compact size and slips into a backpack-style hands-free carry bag
    • Slip your cool beverage into the right side cup holder
    • Mesh version provides extra ventilation in hotter climes

Good for sitting, not for backpacking

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Comfortable chair for lounging in with lots of great added features. Too big/heavy for backpacking. Ideal for car camping.

    Great chair!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought two of these to replace some older camp chairs and just took one of them on a multi-day rafting/camping in Idaho. Great chair. Very comfortable and sturdy. I like the high back which provides a head rest without slouching. Also, the chair does sit low to the ground, which I don't mind, even prefer, but I can see how others may not. Lastly, the "cooler" is pretty worthless as a cooler, but it is a great place to store items you may need handy. i.e. phone, sunglasses, etc., etc. Cheers and happy lounging!

    Not The Most Comfortable

An okay chair but not quite what I was hoping for based on the quantity and quality of reviews here that helped inform my purchase. It's not the most comfortable with the frame interfering with the seat's mesh suspension. The feet are magnets for loose dirt/sand nor is it great on uneven surfaces. Its cup holder's nice but cooler's a bit overkill. Otherwise seems well enough constructed to last and good enough for car camping.

      Narrow in Shoulders

Just arrived and I tried it out. Comfortable but a bit low. Biggest problem is that the bars in the back are too narrow and push against my shoulders. Maybe will work for my kid.

        Time Tested

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a great chair. I have had a number of mesh chairs in my time and the features on this one really make it great. The cooler in the side of the armrest is a little kitschy, but it does come in handy when you want throw your headlamp or buff in it for the fireside sit later on. The slight recline makes it pretty comfortable and the mesh means your chair won't be soaking wet in the morning from dew.

This has come with me on multiple sandy trips. It rinses clean every time.

Would definitely buy this chair again.

        Better than I expected

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Very happy with this chair because it's better than I expected. Does it get much better than that?

        it be good

If you are tall and like sitting tall don't get this. If you enjoy slouching or sitting low close to the fire get it.

It's a nice chair to relax in. I'm 6'3 and I fit in it just fine. I haven't had a chance to use the little cooler on the side tho, so I'm not super sure how effective it is.

Not the best but far from the worst

            • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

OK. First off - the mesh material is going to be scratchy. It's not a soft-feel material or fabric but a woven/molded plastic mesh.

The frame work feels solid and should hold up over time. I have other camping chairs that I prefer over this one because of the fabric material of the chair. This ALPS chair does sit lower than many others. And the backrest is a bit more reclined - somebody mentioned if fells like a Lazy-Boy chair. Good analogy.

If you have hip or back or other joint problems and getting out of a chair can be a bit hard for you, stay away. You'll need help to get out almost every time.

Folds up small and compact and the gear pocket (cooler?!?) in one arm and the cup-holder in the other are bonus features that all chairs SHOULD have.

The bag is bigger than the folded chair (at least mine is) and so it's easy to pack the chair up and store away. Other chairs I've had over the years barely fit back in the storage bag.

Overall, a decent chair - maybe a B-minus. Not the most comfy, but should hold up over time without issue - as long as you don't beat the chairs up too much.

Not the best but far from the worst

            Keep it in the truck

            • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I pretty much have this chair with me all the time. Small enough that it doesn't take up too much space but offers great comfort or convenience when you want it. The storage pouch can get in the way every once in a while but its not so bad

            Go-To Chair for Outdoor Comfort

            • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I LOVE THIS CHAIR. I really enjoy how low to the ground the chair is. I can put my feet out and the ground is my foot rest. The mesh is really nice and the side cooler is a great addition. I've taken this chair camping, to outdoor concerts and just use it in my backyard. It's a great chair at a great price too!

            Great Chair

This chair is awesome with the drink holder and other pouch. Also very comfortable

              ALPS Mountaineering Getaway Chair

              • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Just what you'd expect. Seat height is nice in that it a little lower than most.

              Super comfy camp chairs

              • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Fantastic camp chairs. The cooler in the left arm is ingenious, the mesh material is nice and breathable on a hot day, and the low center of gravity makes them much less tippy on uneven surfaces. They are much more reclined than most camp chairs, but I actually prefer that now that I've tried them. I agree with Alec that the only downside of these chairs is that the headrest can slide off easily when packing/unpacking them from the sleeve. To me, that's no big deal and they remain well worth the price. Tempted to buy a few more just to have on hand, even though I don't "need" them.

              Comfortable chair

More comfortable than most chairs in this style. Drawback is the headrest portion of the chair comes on and off, the little plastic caps which protect the fabric are easily lost, keep an eye on them when setting up and taking down the chair.

                Comfortable chair

Nice to have a pouch to stash stuff in one side, with your drink on the other arm. The mesh makes it comfortable

                  Cool concept, shitty quality

                  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

First the good: I love the low-to-ground seating, the full mesh seat is great for hot weather, cooler pocket is a neat idea, and the price was nice.

Now the bad: On the first camping trip I took them on (I bought 2), one of them got sand or gravel or something in the legs and will not fold all the way up. On the very first time I ever used it. WTF??? The other one folds up fine, but the zipper on the cooler pocket broke almost immediately. Also, the material feels like it's going to rip at any time. I have very little confidence in these chairs making it through another season.

                  Lower is better!

                  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

One main thing I want to add to the reviews... lots of people's con to this chair is how low it is to the ground. At 6'1" I say it's a pro! Think about the numerous activities you do around camp - sitting around a fire ring and stoking it, working with the camp stove, organizing gear... for me I do all that at ground level. This chair keeps me sitting normally doing those activities instead of hunched over in a taller one. Yep, I just blew your mind.

                  alps crushing again

                  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

But seriously, why spend more than double like other chairs on the site. I also own another Alps mountaineering chair which sparked the purchase of this one! well made, well thought out, half the price of the competitors. if you enjoy planting you butt on the beach, at a concert, in a parking lot after your favorite activity. this is the chair you will need.
