Fun book

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

A little too big to take backpacking which may cut into its usefulness. But great book. For consulting after hikes and taking on a day hike. Tons of useful information and pictures and a great overall resource.

Gift for Those Who Spend Time Outdoors

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

These little books are awesome! I have a few of them myself, and have bought a few for my grandparents. These books pack a ton of info for its size.

Best Gift Ever!

I have a small collection of these books I keep around to identify the Flora and Fauna we encounter while Backpacking and day hiking- Love them SO much I've given them to my family too! While they are a bit heavy to take with on anything but a car camp outing they are a great reference for that stuff you found while you were out exploring.

This book is so awesome. I've read/looked through it multiple times and I find new information every single time. It's also perfect for late night star gazing sessions, making it easier to spot and name things I never knew existed. On top of that, the book and sturdy and well made. Buy one for yourself, and another for a friend!

      A Timeless Gift.

I agree with the review below me, this book makes a really, really great gift. I had a boat-load of these growing up and they were so helpful to have on hand when I started taking my pint-sized adventures beyond the confines of my backyard. So, I figured they would serve similarly for others. I bought the star gazing one for a friend and they love it. It's a great alternative for those who are seeking to escape the Ever Present Phone Screen while camping. I very well might buy one for myself, because why not.

      Great Gift

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this for my girlfriend after a brief look through... She absolutely loves it. We've used it countless times through the summer on star gazing dates and it has more than all the info I've ever needed about the night sky.

      Great book

      National Audubon Society Field Guide

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Classic book (the wildflower version), great for identifying any type of flowering plant in the western part of the USA. Not lightweight by any means but perfect for identifying quickly what plant is what on the trail. Beautiful design makes it easy to find the plant by color.

      Love these field guides

I had a few of these guides growing up and, being a nature dork, I pretty much wore them out. They are pretty compact and really informative. I really like the way they are laid out... nice full-color photos up front with corresponding pages of in-depth info at the back. They're great to have in your car or camper for when you're getting out into the wild or even as a nice addition to a home library.

Perfect for all ages too... I recently gave the Mammals one to my niece for her 8th birthday and she was super stoked!
