    We used to run fire drills once a week at the summer camp where I worked. We were on an island and had to rely on ourselves in the event of a fire, so some enterprising administrator purchased a pump that attached to the slowest boat on the island, and this functioned as our fire truck. The chore boys would ring the bell, and then announce the cabin that was supposed to be on fire in our imaginations. We'd hear the boat and pump start up, and then hear it putter around the island for about 10 minutes before it started spraying water on the cabin in question. I'm not sure what everyone else was thinking during those ten minutes, but I was mentally calculating whether I was strong enough to swim off the island and onto another shore when our camp would inevitably become completely engulfed in flames.
