Good job Surprised. That is a nice surprise. I had that happen to me on a pair of sunglasses. After trying to get it I got the usual "your cart is empty" message and forgot about it. Then I got a confirmation email saying the sunglasses were on their way.

I would much rather it happened with a Marmot jacket than the sunglasses, but hey, can't complain. :-)

When you're brewing beer there comes a point in the fermentation process where excess carbon dioxide needs to bleed off the beer but you can't have bacteria-laden air backing up into the mash. The yeast is turning sugar into alcohol, and your sugary wort is slowly becoming beer. If outside bacteria gets into the mix it will compete with the yeast for sugar and you'll get a rancid batch of non-alcoholic syrup. You use an airlock that lets out the gas without letting in air, so you need to fill it with something that won't let in bacteria. Vodka would have worked fine, but we didn't want to leave anything to chance, so we picked up a bottle of Everclear for our airlock. Everclear is a clear grain alcohol that's 198 proof, or 99% alcohol. Drinking it straight can damage your esophagus, and we had to go to a Wisconsin military base to get is since it's illegal most other places. After putting a batch of beer into our carboy and plugging it with the airlock, we looked for the Everclear to fill the airlock. About half of the Everclear was gone, and our roommate Nate was grimacing his way through a particularly clear-looking Screwdriver with his Sunday lunch. If he ever develops esophageal problems, we'll know why.
