Patagonia Down Sweater Hooded Jacket - Men's

Protective features, environmentally conscious.

Stow Patagonia's Down Sweater Hooded Men's Jacket inside its chest pocket on your next backpacking trip, high-elevation climb, or midwinter ski trip—just be sure to let it out regularly so its plush 800-fill Traceable Down insulation retains its soft loft over time. Patagonia's Traceable Down comes from non-live-plucked and non-force-fed geese; a fact that's been third-party-verified. To enhance its green status, Patagonia made the shell out of a recycled polyester ripstop that's light, windproof, and water-resistant thanks to a DWR finish.

Patagonia updated the Down Sweater with a more contoured fit that's longer for better coverage on cold camping trips. At a single pull, the hood cinches comfortably and securely around your head, and the hem and both cuffs help retain the down's wonderful warmth. Patagonia also added two zippered handwarmers and a zippered internal chest pocket that doubles as a stow pocket when it's time to head back home.

  • An insulating layer ideal for climbing, hiking, and skiing
  • 800-fill Traceable Down insulation is lightweight and compressible
  • Weather-shedding shell made from recycled polyester
  • Single-pull adjustable hood is quickly adjusted to combat wind
  • Adjustable hem and elasticized cuffs work to lock in heat
  • Jacket stows in interior chest pocket for easy packing
  • Contoured fit helps reduce bulk and longer hem increases coverage
  • Patagonia is dedicated to crafting sustainable outdoor gear

Favorite down I own!

This is one of my favorite jackets. I find myself always wearing this over some of my other down jackets. It is lightweight and warm. The look of it is perfect. I own the navy color and it is a good neutral to have. I have noticed that Patagonia fits me best over TNF and other brands. Highly recommend!

    best down jacket out there

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I feel like I have a lot of jackets in my closet and this by far is number 1 on my list of jackets to wear. Very warm and just feels good. When you're wearing it doesn't feel bulky at all.

    Stylish but lacking durability

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

I bought this jacket as a gift for my boyfriend. Here's his review:
"The jacket looks great and I love the color. The sizing is accurate and the hood is great. I'm not happy with the durability of the outer shell though. This is definitely not a mountain workhorse and will not tolerate rough use. Works perfectly as a winter jacket for city use. I would recommend pairing it with a shell on very cold/windy days though. I really wish Patagonia would give this jacket a more durable outer fabric."

He ended up getting a tear pretty soon after opening this up, on a wooden fence. Easy enough to fix, and Patagonia has a sweet warranty, so it all worked out in the end.

Erin, for the Down Sweater it's a delicate balance of lightweight and packable vs tough and durabilite. The Ultralight Down Sweater has a shell fabric that is half the weight and twice the strength of the strength of the regular Down Sweater if your boyfriend needs something burlier!

    Patagonia improved a great piece

Replaced a 10 year old down sweater hoodie with a bum zipper and this one is better in almost every way. Better fit, better zippers, microfleece at the mouth. It's a classic.

I wear this thing everywhere! My goto piece of clothing. I should probably buy more of them as this one gets some serious use. Everything from ski resorts to Central America. The internal pocket/stuff sack is a great travel wallet holder.

Only negative for myself is that I could probably use a warmer down jacket as I'm sometimes cold while wearing this in more social settings.

    Treat Yo Self!

Well, I love this thing. It gives me the warm fuzzies inside. Whenever I’m cold, I put this thing on and then I’m not cold anymore. It’s like magic. Putting the hood on and zipping the jacket up all the way is like a welcome-back-to-the-womb simulation. So warm.

Sometimes when there is gnar to be shredded, I try to go shred it. If it’s cold on that day, I will bring this jacket and one of his waterproof friends as back up. They never let me down.

One bummer is that this thing is not fire proof and will probably melt if it were to come into contact with something hot (e.g., freshly extinguished backpacking stove). Fortunately for us, it is easy to repair and then use in order to continue being warm. Also, if you don’t wash it, it starts to smell like adventure, but not like the good adventure smells.

So, if you’re trying to stay warm, I think you should buy one.

    Classy

Classy on the slopes and walking round town. Like the two tone blue and red.

This jacket will change your life.

I absolutely love my Patagonia Down Hoody. It is one of the most versatile pieces of clothing I have. I take this thing everywhere, literally. I was wearing it on Maui, and less than 3 weeks later, it was with me on the summit of the Grand Teton. I never leave home with out it. It is not only good for active wear, but is also a very great casual piece. Whether you are just out for the night, or going skiing and need some insulation, this is the jacket for you. I must note that it does run somewhat slim, because I am normally a Medium, but I had to get this in a Small.

      My Favorite Down!

Everyone needs at least one great down jacket. I have about five that all fill different roles, but this one is my favorite. It fits very well; close to the body to retain warmth (and not look like I'm wearing a sleeping bag), but still allows full range of motion. Both the hood and the waist have nice cinch cords to trap your body heat, and there's some softer fabric around the neck/face to keep it comfortable. And it's warm! I'm a California native who recently moved to SLC, Utah, and this jacket is helping me survive the frigid temperatures here! My only complaint would be that lighter colors do seem to pick up and show a lot of dirtiness; I have it in orange and it looks pretty dirty around the wrists, elbows and front zipper. Other than that, this jacket is near perfect!

      Best Overall Jacket

This jacket is extremely versatile which makes it my favorite jacket yet. It's warm through the bitter Rocky Mountain winters, provides a great outer layer for snowboarding, and is light enough to take to work.

        Good Gear to have

Good Product but runs little big for me. I ordered small but did not like the fact it runs little big in length.

Absolutely fantastic coat. Nifty draw string adjustments, water repellant, extremely light and packable but warmer that larger coats I've owned in the past. have not had to layer coat with anything else this winter thus far.

By far it's been the best winter coat I've ever owned.. I've only had it for about a month, so I'll see how it holds up of course, but I wear it all the time and from what I understand Patagonia carries a lifetime warranty on these babys, so there really is no reason for worry. Happy I got the hooded version. the hood is a work of art. I've gotten many compliments on the jacket and others are wanting one. I wish it was slightly longer and less wide, more of a slim fit, but you can make that work in so many ways. if you're on the fence don't be- jump off if you can afford it. you'll not regret it.

        Lightweight but Warm!

I bought this jacket for my boyfriend, and he loves this coat! The jacket is very lightweight, but don't be alarmed! It is super warm with an 800 fill down! This is great all around down jacket. My guy wears it around town, skiing, hiking, camping. This jacket does not come with a stuff sack, but packs down into the inner chest pocket! Great for traveling!

        Great jacket!

        • Fit: Runs small
        • Size Bought: Large

I have been very happy with this jacket so far. it is extremely comfortable and compact. I bought it as a winter jacket and it does a good job, but not 100% of what i wanted it to do. I live in Wisconsin where we are at -10 to 20 often. This jacket is good until 25+ degrees.
Sizing for me seemed very small. I expected to fit in a medium, but i switch for a large to be able to wear anything under neath the jacket.

        Good jacket-bad delivery

I bought for my husband and he loves this jacket. However, it was delivered later than stated. The delivery person did not ring the door bell and just threw the package on my driver way, not even close to the front door. This is just bad manners.

        So good I have 2!

This jacket is nothing less than spectacular. Great for casual & commuters. I have worn this as a mid layer and stand alone. I have both hooded & non-hooded. The neck/hood when zipped up (not overhead) covers your chin and neck (front & back). Worn in cold Michigan Fall, Winter and Spring. As usual excellent quality for Patagonia.

        So good I have 2!

This jacket is all killer no filler. Super warm, really wearable and amazingly light. I barely notice I'm wearing it yet I can tell the difference when I am out in the elements. This jacket is super warm and definitely my favorite layer that I use underneath my ski shell. It's super versatile, I can wear it around the house if its a bit chilly, out to get the mail, under my ski jacket, and then its my outer coat when I'm at the apres bar. Perfect fit for me, I thought I might need a large but the medium is spot on.

Beware of the wet dog smell...

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Medium

Smelled fine when I unpacked it - wore it on a light walk and by the time I got to my gym, I smelled a strong smell that I can only describe as a wet dog. I thought, that's strange - my gym stinks like a wet dog. Put jacket away in locker and no more smell. Wore it home and by the time I was in the elevator in my building, the smell came back. Figured it was a one-off; returned it and tried another. Jacket smelled fine on delivery but once again, light walk (not breaking a sweat by any means) and the smell was present in the second one as well. Have plenty of Arc Teryx, OR, and other down garments with no issues even after aerobic exercise, and no issues personally with B.O. just to set the record straight...not sure what's up with the down. Called Patagonia and they said they had not heard of anything like this...seems strange. Backcountry rep told me they've heard of other cases recently. Just be aware.
