Mavic Cosmic Low Socks

Low and steady.

Mavic is a relatively conservative company that doesn't rock the boot without a damned good reason for doing so, preferring to privilege safety in wheels and tradition in kit wherever possible. The Cosmic Low Socks represents that steady-as-she-goes ethos with a no-show cuff and a heavily ventilated body. That's not to say the Cosmic Low is a backwards model, as it's made with odor-resistant Meryl Skinlife material and features a reinforced toe and padded metatarsal panel for durable comfort. The socks are breathable — which we expect from cycling socks — and are also assembled with an anatomic, left/right-specific fit — a less common feature, and the low height won't interfere with compressive leg sleeves.

Good for long rides

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: small

My toe area tends to hurt me on long rides with not many stops. I ordered these because of the cushion under the toes. It helps lengthen the time until my toes hurt. They are lightweight elsewhere, which is definitely my preference for summer heat. They come in L/R-specific socks, but I fail to see the advantage. Because my shoes are either 38 (size S on size chart) or 8 to 8 1/2 (size M on size chart) in shoe size, I ordered both the small and medium. The medium was definitely too big.
